impetuous?
heh very funny having a group of dummies in your army that just go nuts and run at the enemy full speed is that new or did i just not really notice it? Is there a way to recruit more of them other than stealing from the garrison? would of interesting having half a army of crazy uncontrollable people..

This has been a mechanic that was used off and on since the original Medieval: Total War. It's just now, ironically, our sense of control over our units is sooooooo much better than 2000-2010's we actually notice when they are fighting when we don't tell them to.

The quote is a good take on it.

Rome 2 had the same thing with elephant units and berserkers being impetuous at times. TW:WH had it with some Lizardmen units (and a handful of others).

It's a thing TW has done for a while, now, and it's just more noticeable after how often players painstakingly analyzed unit orders and unit pathing in the last few games.

I remember having impetuous Knights in Medieval: Total War back in 2002 - they usually had the 'may charge without orders' trait. War Elephants in Rome also had a tendency to go berserk, as did the Hounds of Culann in Barbarian Invasion.
