Yeah and after that Warhammer 40k or Total War: Lord of the Rings.
We will not get proper historical Total War for years (if ever).
Besides, I don't count Three Kingdoms as historical. It's a semi-fantasy title based on semi-fantasy sources inspired by real history (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) with hero units and hero focused gameplay. You don't even play as factions but as a hero.
But no. Pharoah.
As much praise as I could heap on Empire- probably 3000 of my 3000whatever hours logged on it are with huge overhaul mods. So there's that to factor in to the self-posed query of "what were you expecting?".
This game doesn't suck, it's just I have never seen anyone mention a desire for it in Discussions about Total War direction and I'm not particularly engaged by the setting choices. At best, Pharaoh is a stepping stone to a period the original fanbase of the TW series actually wants to play. I'll hope for that I suppose and just refuse to accept TW is a WH series now.
Not really. I don't know why it's so difficult for Pure Historical Fans to grasp that Total War Warhammer Fantasy was intended to be a trilogy(which means there will only
be three of them). There won't be a "Wahammer Total War 4" nor a 5 or a 6. The next Warhammer game, if there is one, will be Warhammer 40k Total War, and that's not an easy a prospect as it sounds; at least not for the first one.
If you've been anywhere near the discussions of prospective Total War 40ks then you'll know that the majority believe that CA will need a new engine and it's thus a long way away. They think it'll need space combat and a galactic map as well as ground combat. Many also believe that 40k's combat is just too radically different from traditional total war combat with line and block infantry and firing lines and this again necessities a prerequisite of a new engine for the development of 40k. It's not going to be something that they can spam, as you say.
Don't worry though I'm sure you'll get your Medieval 3 far before then and then smash your mobs of mud covered pitchfork armed recolored peasants against each other to your hearts content long before then.
They didn't kill it, they made it much better in Fall of the Samurai. It's not in subsequent TW games because it's irrelevant. Chinese river raids are not exactly the same as commanding ships of the line. And naval battles are absolutely irrelevant in Britannia, Atilla, and Troy.
