If you use archer chariots keep your distance and just flank the enemy. You can poor arrows into a units rear and it works very well. They have specific uses but if used right they are really nice. If they get hung up though they will go down fast.
In Troy, Chariots were a problem and overpowered. In Pharaoh they are much better tuned in my opinion. They can be very effective, but they can be useless if you use them wrong.
I can only write that so far the light chariots I've used have been very useful. Positioned on the flanks, they pushed the enemy units back to the centre. In case of enemy flight, they are very effective. Well, I haven't used the heavy shock tanks yet. We'll see. In any case, they require micromanagement. In any case, the pathfinding is not great.
