Melee fatigue a thing lol.
They recently just did "pharaoh" too, Warhammer II DLC.
And between Rome II and Troy....
This game feels like it's 10 years too late or 10-15 years to early in the making.
So, no, I don't think it will be a classic, unless you mean one of those ancient relics that people quickly forget about.
Depends on how good the game is. Shogun 2 was heavy melee/cavalry and it is regarded as one of, if not the best total war game ever made.
eh, wouldn't put it above either 1st Medieval, 2nd Medieval or 1st Rome.
personally found the Warhammer II to be a bit more interesting too.
Don't get me wrong It brought a lot to the table though. But that why it suceeded. The time period was fresh (not counting first shogun because it was still arguably obscure) and mechanics enhanced.
What's new that they are bringing to the table? We don't have a lot to go on so far, but they haven't brought a lot of new... probably since shogun II / Empire days, with the exception of the magic stuff with warhammer.
three kingdoms was essentially a mesh of all there previous titles, there wasn't really anything new there if you had played them all before.
medieval 2 is known as the better game due to mods too, tbf, but the base game allowed for that extent of modding. Also, the modern engine doesn't really like hand to hand combat, the matched combat stuff often looked stupid, and without mods the combat is pretty terrible. Medieval 2 took everything good about rome1, improved on it, and added to it. Had the balance really nice in that game.
There's too many things that have been simplified, seemingly to allow the AI to play the campaign game.
IDK. Depends what you want it to do.
If they hadn't played a TW before I could see it. But ya, for people who had been playing TW for decade already, it was more of an Ok to pretty good. Wouldn't put it in the "classic" territory.
There something that's just off with the nation evolution in that game.
Rome 1, while a bit more cartoony looking, had a bit more fun to it with tactical battles, particularly when considering the time it came out.
