8 Heroes to choose from from 3 different cultures in the base game
+ 3 Heroes if you pre order Dynasty Edition of the game (Faction Pack 1,2,3).
They might, if it is sucessful, and often requested, too.
Also have you played Ozymandias and seen their Near East map?
I'm so glad someone mentioned the sea peoples. I think there is also room for Nubia and the Kassite Empire to make a showing too
Can wiki list of bronze age states and sea peoples and you could easily fit in 100 factions in these regions with ease i think. Once Mycenaean Greece collapses there are at least 9-10 different sea peoples that were apparently identified in ancient sources.
I'll tell you when I first saw those videos a couple of years ago I thought it would be cool if there were some strategy games with those nations in them.
- Egyptian Empire
- Hittite Empire
- Kingdoms of Canaan (Jericho, Jerusalem and Megiddo in particular)
- Ugarit State (the "Venice" of the Bronze Age world, major center of trade and culture)
- Kingdom of Lukka (a famous ally of the Trojans, warred with Hittites, became pirates, then became one of the Sea Peoples, and eventually went back and evolved into Graeco-Roman Lycia)
- Arzawa League/Assuwa League (Luwian confederation of powerful cities, of which Troy was a leading member, evolved into Graeco-Roman Asia province)
- Kingdom of Troy (or as it was known, Kingdom of Wilusha)
- Assyrian Empire
- Kingdom of Babylon (Kassite or Third Dynasty)
- Southern Mesopotamian State, rename it to something else (southern part of Babylon, former area of Sumer and thus extremely wealthy and powerful, starts as a vassal of Babylon because it was always autonomous in the Bronze Age)
- Elamite Kingdom (one of the oldest civilizations and a major power, the bane of Mesopotamians for a thousand years)
- Nubia (part of Egyptian empire, but was ruled as an autonomous province by a viceroy, therefore another possible faction)
- Mycenaean Kingdoms of Greece (states of Mycenae, Pylos, Tiryns, Sparta etc. ruled by a single High King called Wanax, who in Greek mythos was Anax Agammemnon). Also called Danaans.
- Thessaly (another Mycenaean state, but powerful and large enough to remain independent for long periods of time)
- Crete (a mix of Mycenaean and Minoan civilizations, and a powerful seaborne kingdom, possibly a vassal of Mycenae)
- Euboea (a fully Greek Mycenaean kingdom and vassal to the high king, but one that actually managed to survive the Bronze Age Collapse)
- Nairi tribes (proto-Armenians, fought wars with Assyrians and Hittites and then created their own kingdom called Urartu - the first Armenian state)
- Amorite kingdoms (Mari, Aleppo, powerful but start off as vassals of Hittite and Assyrian empires)
- Hurrians (used to be a big and powerful empire only recently, can still revolt and become one again)
- Arameans (a successful nomadic tribe that took over most of the Middle East during Bronze Age collapse, rebuilt many Mesopotamian cities into new "barbarian" kingdoms after collapse, became culturally dominant and even later Assyrians adopted their language)
- Zagrosians (represents various mountain tribes that frequently invaded and tried to conquer Mesopotamia, like old Gutians, Suteans, Chaldeans who rebuilt Babylon and more)
- Libyans (invaded Egypt and slowly took over it in a century or two after collapse, one of the toughest tribes of the era)
- Thracians
- Possibly Dorians
- Possibly Cycladian island kingdoms, subservient to Mycenae or Crete
- Some have suggested adding proto-Israelites, I don't know about them in this era
These are the factions that existed IRL in the century before and during Bronze Age Collapse. There are actually some more, but these are the ones I recall on top of my head.
