Salary Floor
My budget is below salary floor. What a weird problem to have. Sign free agents like I saw recommended. Now I have too many players on my roster. I have been wanting to play and love these games for years but always, always, always run into some weird problem. Help me love this game like everyone else does.

What team are you playing as? You should still be able to send a player down to clear the roster space although you may have to waive them first - so waive several. Just make sure they aren't on two way deals.

You want me to sign free agents just to waive them? Sounds logical...

Started a new game and simply turned off Salary Floor not knowing what it was the first time.

To "waive" someone in hockey terms doesn't mean that they are no longer with the team, it means they are moving to your minor league system/available for call ups when there is an injury or whatnot. A player going through "waivers' simply means that another team can take him, but by doing say they also take on a contract. So if you say, signed someone for 5 million dollars on a one-way deal then sent them to the minors, that 5 million dollar cap hit doesn't disappear for you, it's just moving the player to the minor leagues for now.

Thanks for the clarification. As far back as the 70's I never understood the term. As you can tell, I don't follow sports. I love numbers and finding a way to beat the AI. I turn off anything I don't understand. Like Salary Floor and Waivers. Now I want to turn off injuries. OOTP lets me reduce injuries. Wish this game did the same. So I went back to playing OOTP which is a bit more complex. Love these games. They just frustrate me because I don't fully understand the complexities and rules.

FILE > Settings > Game Settings Tab > Injury Frequency Adjustment.

Terms are a little interchangeable, but there's definitely a difference between sports. If you have questions, asking or joining our forums and asking are great places to learn!

Interesting that I did not see that before. Made it through preseason fine. Lost 6 players to injuries the first 3 games of the regular season. My franchise player was going to be out 5-6 months. That is when I ragged quit. lol

While injuries are unfortunate, our injuries are actually very much in line with real NHL season. However, user coaching can affect games as well, because agressive tactics, and if players are getting overplayed or stamina drops, they can become more susceptible to injuries.
