Game Does Not Launch

-Here are some of the common steps you can try. And I'll update this with more solutions as things are figured out. Also, hopefully information will help Microsoft find some of these issues!

Run the game as administrator.

1. Go to the game installation directory and select AoMRT_s.exe (the game executable)
2. right click -> properties -> compatibility tab
3. check run this program as an administrator -> ok

Turn off programs that may interfere with the game.

Some programs may interfere with the correct operation of the game. Check if turning these off before launching the game will allow the game to launch. Examples of possible programs:

Steam Overlay
NVDIA Overlay
RivaTuner
MSI Afterburner
ASUS GPU Tweak
Overwolf
Process Hacker

Manually delete the Age of Mythology: Retold 'My Games' folder

This can remove any data that may be interfering with the game operation.

Note: Deleting the folder can remove in-game settings such as Hotkeys and custom Settings.

Manually Update Visual C++ Redistributables

If you are using a 64-bit Operating System, download the vc_redist.x64.exe file.
If you are using a 32-bit Operating System, download the vc_redist.x86.exe file.
Please Note that Age of Mythology: Retold requires Win10 64-bit as part of its minimum technical requirements, if you are running a 32-bit version, you may not be meeting min-spec.

Manually Check for Windows Updates

While your Windows Updates may be set to automatically install, it is possible that these updates failed to install properly, or that an essential update was skipped. Please confirm that you are on Windows 10, build 19043 or better. If you are on an earlier OS version, or a preview version, you may run into issues.

Manually Update Visual C++ Redistributables

After executing the file, click Repair.

Add the Game to the Allow List of Windows Antivirus Programs

Check that the game is on the Allow List for Windows Defender, Windows Security, and Windows Controlled Folder Access. This process may require additional steps if you have any additional Antivirus programs running on your machine.

I have unfortunately done all of these steps and then some. The game just doesn't launch. The play button is almost instantly re-appearing. There's some check that's immediately failing. I even swapped the game between both my SSD's to no avail. I have no overlays, all of my drivers are up to date across the board. Windows is updated, C++ is up to date...

Currently AoM Retold runs with Proton 7 on the SteamDeck. I think there is an issue with AMD grafikcards and also Windows 11 in some cases. On Windows try to run AoM Retold in compatibility mode as Windows 10 or even 8.
