thanks, me too i really want to know more about this
and click "manage", then "browse game files". From there go to:
"Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology Retold\game\data"
This is where you will find the "data.bar" file.
Make a copy of this data.bar file and paste it somewhere on your desktop,
you may need this file again in the future, this is for easy access.
(for example you can use it to check the vanilla stats again)
Here is the tool you need to open .bar files:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MiUzxQO8g-LkaeneV-VlZtsAugs3Ssq9/view
Open the data.bar file with the resource manager.
In here you will find the proto and techtree and godpower files (and much more)
You will have to extract these files with the
"auto decompress compressed files" and
"auto convert .xmb files to .xml" options ticked on.
Also make sure you extract them to the location you want them.
(i recommend a folder on your desktop, and make a backup of these files as well)
Proto is for all the unit stats, techtree is for all the age-ups, upgrades, relics, and more.
Godpower files are separate for each faction; and have almost all data of GPs;
but GP cooldowns are in the techtree file, f.e. gaia forest is under "archaicagegaia"
---------------------------------------------------
This should already be enough info to get started.
A good way to learn how to do things is by downloading other mods,
and checking to see how they did things, like mod file structure.
There is also a "merge" technique, to make mods compatible with others;
simply changing the proto/techtree files and putting them in your mod,
will make them incompatible with any other mod that also does this,
as they overwrite the same files. The "merge" technique circumvents this.
But i dont really recommend using merging, for beginners, its an advanced technique.
PS i hope this helps. I had to figure out most of this by myself,
so i agree, some detailed modding guide, in the steam guides, would be useful.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask. :)
Do you think it is possible to swamp the new minor gods from Freyr into vanilla norse gods or not ? or it will be like a "no way" for the dev (or maybe the mod should be accessible to people that bought freyr) ?
Yes, you can do this, in the techtree file.
for example, if you search for "name="archaicageloki" or "name="classicalageloki", (etc)
you can change one of the minor gods with one of the new ones, from Freyr.
its this line: <effect type="TechStatus" status="obtainable">ClassicalAgeUllr</effect>
I have already tested this, and it works; as long as you keep 2 minor gods per age.
In my mod, i switched Hekate to Kronos, and Atlas to Oranos, and it works just fine,
but in the ingame techtree menu, this isnt shown, unless i also change the UI for that.
(still figuring out how to do that)
I have also been thinking on doing this for the Norse as well,
(so adding Freyr minor gods to the other major gods)
but i am still thinking about where to put which minor god.
You can enable all minor gods, to all major gods, but i dont know how to do this,
as you would have to make changes to the age-up UI, but i have seen mods that do this.
But i would argue that this makes all the major gods less unique, and possibly unbalanced..
Can you too add units, buildings or modify the major god statue on forum and temple with new asset ?
and that you mean town center, with forum
it should be possible, although i dont know how to do it.
You would have to make your own custom models,
(and change the models of the TC and temple)
to do that you will probably need a (compatible) model creation tool,
and im not even sure if this exists yet, for AoM Retold.
(if it does, i dont know what it is called or where to get it)
do you know how to have a icon model for a new tech and make a new tech with it ? and what IA can i use for made the image of the icon ?
If you are referring to data modding, it seems you have to use a .bar editor. (I believe there is a post in there or in guides. I forget where though honestly. It may have been a google search.)
edit: If anything, I suppose I can start working on a guide myself. (Not an expert on it though but, I can always trial/error my way though it.)
I dont know how to do that, so far i have only changed existing things in the game,
and not added anything new. I assume the files for the icons are somewhere in the UI files.
("Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology Retold\game\ui")
You can find it under "modding or configuration", or use this link:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3332716391
But ill just copy paste the relevant part over here as well. ;)

To play with your mod, you will need to put your files in the correct folders.
You can find the location ingame, by clicking on "mods" at the top of the main menu,
then click on "mod manager" button in the bottom left of the screen,
then select (any) one of your subscribed mods,
then click on the "open directory" button. (again, bottom left)
----------------------------------------------------------
The resource manager should automatically extract files with the correct folder structure,
but just in case, i will show the correct folder structures:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Games\Age of Mythology Retold\76561198153794031
\mods\local\MODNAME\game\data\gameplay
( => proto.xml / techtree.xml)
For god powers, the files go into
\mods\local\MODNAME\game\data\gameplay\god_powers
----------------------------------------------------------
If done correctly, you should find your mod in the mod manager.
It should even be enabled, by default.
(the button to enable/disable it should be blue, instead of green)
For testing, i recommend disabling all other mods,
unless you want to see if it is compatible with other mods.
Once you are satisfied with your mod, you may want to upload it.
To do so, you have to open your mod manager,
find your mod in the list and select it,
then click on "view" in the bottom right corner;
then click on "publish your mod". (again, bottom right)
(this button will only appear if you selected your own "local" mod;
when selecting a subscribed mod, the button will say "remove mod" instead)
