Caravans gave good gold in the original, now they give less than half I think.
It's very disruptive in campaign to make multiple forts and towers only to watch them melt helplessly...
Towers are rarely used outside the four on your main base due to expensive + 4 base damage.
Caravans got a buff on the latest patch, you can score 100+ gold per trip on a small map from side to side, are still a decent transition when gold mines are not a thing.
Me neither, they nerfed this aspect of the game too much then we got the relentless cavalry raid/early aggro meta.

I miss the buildings being... worth something. Walls to are so flimsy and not worth it.
I have also said similar things to this.
I personally never found it to be an issue, you just build defensively as well and break the siege out. Siege in my opinion are not necessary in this version of the game. I've lost fortified tcs to groups of throwing axemen lol...
Well, towers are used most of the time behind buildings/walls, to dissuade attackers, but not anymore, 4 base damage is laughable.

The defense buffs have always been pretty bad even in old AoM but now its meme-tier and makes the "why pick someone other than Freya in first age?" debate even more crude now.
Odin with Heimdall -> Skadi gives you a nasty Earthquake + Freeze rush and two free MUs that do enough Crush damage to swat the initial TC + Towers, or rip down a fast waller.
Throwing Axes have always been better than expected against buildings because of the melee damage but yeah it is kind of stupid how fast I can knock over a wooden fence with less than 10 units
