The 'flip through' of the gods at the end is so quick it's impossible to tell them all, but Oceanus is definitely in there.
Yes.
I could identify every god at the flip through. All of them major gods, except for Oceanus.
Why put one random minor god in there? Am I the only one wondering what the meaning of this is?
I'm still very anxious to see how they designed Hades. The old avatar was so perfect with the dark hair and facial hair in contrast with his brothers that had white hair. Hope they don't ruin it.
In actual mythology, Oceanus was considered a big deal. Like, his power was compared to that of Zeus, and some scriptures place him above Uranos in the hierarchy.
Making Oceanus a minor god is something that didn't make much sense in the original, but they did it anyway.
I'm not saying he's going to get elevated to major god status, I don't know how much sense it would make, outside of mythology wise. But why would they put him in the lineup of gods, that are otherwise all major gods, and not even all the major gods. Set and Hades are missing. We saw Set on the poster, but Hades not yet. Nor Uranos. I'd like to know how Uranos looks like now, after they changed Gaia so much.
On the topic of Hades, I don't know why he's getting so much ♥♥♥♥ from pop culture, being forced into a villain role so much. In actual mythology, he's actually one of the chillest dudes among the greek gods, and a far cry from the evil-dude Hollywood so loves to portray him as... Makes me feel bad for not playing Hades more.
I don't doubt that. But someone at Microsoft deemed Oceanus important enough to be included in a trailer lineup of gods. I might be overthinking this, I'm not ruling that out.
What sense does it make to just have him in that lineup if nothing is happening to him at all, besides a new portrait? If something is happening, what is it?
Could be any number of things.
As for Hades, I always liked his Justice League depiction, both of them really.
Probably came about with people associating the underworld of Greek Mythology with the Judeo-Christian Hell, despite being completely different things, and thus leading to Hades being represented as a parallel to Satan in popular media. i.e., Disney’s Hercules and its very popular, yet inaccurate, portrayal of Hades (and Greek mythology as a whole, for that matter). Though I feel like the role of “Greek Mythology’s Big Bad” in pop culture has skewed more towards Ares in the last decade.
The Lineup had Gaia too. But you're right, that could be it. It just makes me wonder why there's only this one minor god, and everyone else in the lineup is a major god. (Unless I mistook Horus for Ra, but I don't think so)
Zeus would unironically be the closest to an actual villain, though, followed closely by Poseidon.
Recently watched Blood of Zeus, and quite enjoyed it, Zeus's depiction as an a**hole is fairly accurate, Posiedon honestly seems the most decent out of all of them, though i did like Hade's arc, and his motives.
Though imo, Aphrodite was wearing too much :P
Not going as far to declare myself a fan, I also won't just bash it. The series has its pros and cons. And unlike the movies, it didn't portray hades as a villain, which is a huge plus for me.
