Certain problems with AI on Island / water map
After two games against AI on medium and hard difficulty, this was my experience.

Short read:
The AI needs some serious updates.


Long read:
AI just stops working on island map. Their villagers stop farming, caravans stop moving, navy does not attack me anymore, they dont rebuild the harbour that I destroy.

I do remember that in the original game the AI opponent does lose its steam too after a while and becomes more or less inactive/defensive. But the AI in this game almost doesnt even try.

I have seen a Pegasus just flying still on the spot. Hostile transport ships swimming in circles / back and fort, a egyptian eagle (transport) carrying a priest just flying in a corner at the end of the map.

And two or three times I have seen the AI use ships to transport 5 units to attack my villagers on a tiny island but thats about it.

The AI still does not utilize other islands. NOT EVEN A SINGLE ONE!

I find it strange that the devs realized that the Titans dont work properly on water maps and fixed that by making them cross water but have not noticed that the AI in general cant deal with water maps properly. Especially if the player walls off his island.

The AI does not even send its Titan over.

Another problem that is consistently appearing is:

If I send multiple units into a transport ship, one last unit does not enter the ship.

Example:
Out of five villagers four will enter the ship but the fifth will stay and has to be ordered again.

yeah its weird how bad ai is on islands maps had a game where they only attacked once with 5 units then never attacked any of us beside maybe 3 ships

I played a game on the Vinlandsaga map, none of the 3 Ai left thier little island.

The entire game breaks when I generate a Naval map. The enemies do not attack at all and if they do they send envoys to all islands but do not move. One time I had a Loki faction that had like 30 nidhogg dragons just floating in the island and they did not attack unless I was nearby. Also the traveling distance between ships is nearly impossible.

The biggest glitch was ghost units, or units that appear alive when they were already killed. I was playing legendary with 11 AI and once I wiped them all out, I could not win, there was one missing unit and after four hours of playing I couldn't find that single unit. I had to enter a cheat code for me to win because no matter how many units I sent out patrolling on attack moves, it was near impossible.

They recently sent out a survey about this game that pretty much reflects what I experienced. Four hours bro. Just sending units to deal with Loki's island was nightmare fuel.

-AI not behaving on naval seems to be a well known bug at this point. Hopefully it get ls fixed!

If I am not mistaken this has always been an issue, even in the Age of Empires games. The AI always has issues with water maps

That should not be the case. They charge money for this. Video games are products just like everything else too and a product should work as intended. Besides of that today I played on the map Alfheim. This map has no water on it and the AI was still not functioning properly.

This is because developers do not dedicate the time necessary to develope a proper functioning AI. Games like Supreme Commander are proof of this. The vanilla AI in SupCom is terrible but the fans managed to create their own custom ones that are capable to wreck a player. If only devs would have the same amount of care for the products that they sell.

I played a 1v3 against three extreme AI's on the same water map a few times. Even if I restarted the map only one of the AIs ever made ships that mattered, as the two other AIs decided to build their docks on a separate lake and build their ships there even if there was nothing to attack. One even built their Market so that the caravans couldn't exit, and it did this every time spamming its population on ships and caravans that didn't do anything. The AI should probably just delete their ships after a while if there is nothing to attack, to regain that population amount.

On ground only maps the AI seems decent.
