force healing (priest, pharao, valkyrie...)
Hello,

I love the game, so much souvenirs coming back to me. it confirms I always prefered this entry to regulard age of empire games.

I do have one question which i always had since original age of mythology game tough.

Is there any way to force units capable of healing (priest, valkyries) to do their jobs, aka healing ?
Currently when using move they just move obviously, when using move attack they just attack. I assumed this entry had ficex the problem when i saw the heal ability you can right click. however it doesn't seem to change anything. If i right click they heal when idle, and if i leave the ability as normal they heal when idle too. So first problem would hbe what is the point of the right click for these units (same for pharaons).

I had hoped that right clicking their heal would force them to heal my army and not attack. And when left unchecked they would attack instead of heal. This would have allowed to preset my army as i want and even mix both preset into an attack.
In any case it is easy to double click priest to focus fire a myth unit. But it is such a pain to select them to stop any order for them to heal. esp since when they are part of a group control you would cancel that healing idle order non stop. difference lying in you want to heal units for periods, you want to focus fire a myth for a fex seconds.

If i've missed a shortcut solving that issue please let me know, it's so frustating and yet seem so obvious to me it's needed XD.

I believe setting them to no attack stance will make them heal constantly. I usually put them on defensive stance at the back of my army so they heal a bit or i micro them.

same BS in AOE 3, priests just rushing to the front to get killed and without getting a single heal in

Fair enough. The game's default unit logic seems to be to play in the most useless and inefficient way possible in order to force the player to micro manage the units and play them better.

For units that can heal, they really should have a very easily toggleable setting for "heal first" or "heal only" so that if you put them in a group, they don't give up their most useful ability to go execute a weak attack on whatever counters them.

In fact, I really wish units would stop defaulting to attack their counters as a general rule. Nothing pisses me off more than watching infantry go in and try to chase around skirms and villagers instead of actually hitting things, or watching cavalry look for that pikeman-type unit and ignore anything else on the battlefield to go get slaughtered. They did this nonsense in AoE3 and they've brought it into AOM:R and it's a real frustrating thing to have to deal with. I don't like having to fight intentionally bad programming all game.

That's one of my top requested features to tell healers to primarily focus on healing unless ordered otherwise. That is especially true for priests and pharaohs because their damage is almost nonexistent against normal units and still they think it's better to throw those stones instead of healing units.

it shouldn't be that hard to actually add from the dev.
Let's just hope it reaches their ears at some point.
it is definitly my most wanted change on that game since first one.

Just set them to stand ground, the only thing they will do is heal if they are near damaged units.

I know of that method, but since I mostly select my group and set them to defensive stance as new units join and that also affects the priests within that group which makes me either have to keep deselecting the priests, set them to a different group or having to manually put them back to stand ground, which are all too daunting. Setting the game to default defensive stance solves this problem for me and I used that for a while, but then it caused other bugs with the game (the caravan idling bug), which then forced me to revert back to aggressive stance.

You can just right click on the heal ability on the bottom left corner. It will prioritize heal over attack. It works also for the other abilities that are by default automated (for mythical units for example) if you want to manually use them.

I use the hotkey for 'select all heroes' with Egyptians for the healing micro it works quite well

Would that also select an empowering pharaoh?

Yes it selects all priests + pharaohs

I was a bit disappointed but then I read one of the changes coming in the PUP which prevents select all heroes or select all military to select empowering units.
