AoM vs AoE4
Can someone please give me a breakdown? I WANT to buy this game. But i want to know- what does it bring to the table when you compare it to Age of Empires 4...which I still play to this day.
I heard it has an improved engine from the original AoM for example...but is it an improved engine to Aoe4....which is not all that great and can become unstable late game?

I just need a reason to actually but the game, but am struggling to find one.

AOE4's engine is far superior. AOM Retold uses AOE3 DE engine. The feel of the game is horrendous if you compare it to the crisp AOE4 feel. Large units often don't know how to path find sometimes. The late game is even more unstable than AOE4. Battles are much smaller in that there are more large pop units out there.

This game is quite different from other Age games in that the civs are more asymmetrical than other titles. It's also fun to blow things up with god powers and monsters. In that it's more casual and more "social" for lack of a better word.

The engine doesn't quite match AoE4, and it's missing some quality of life features that mainly will bother high-level players. However, the campaign is significantly better than AoE4's. Combat feels a bit slower, but the myth units and God Powers add explosive moments. I'd rate this remake an 8/10. Definitely worth buying if you're already an Age fan, especially for the amount of content it offers for the price.

I'll start by saying, I have spent thousands of hours playing the original Age of Mythology. It's my favorite of the Age games, and I've put hundreds into the original versions of each. Second, the engine AoM Retold uses is Bang!. It's the original engine from AoM and AoE3 but heavily updated. Think how unreal engine 5 is built upon 4, which is built upon 3, ect... AoE4 uses the Essence engine, which isn't designed for Age of Empires to begin with; it was made for Company of Heroes. All in all, the updated Bang! engine is phenomenal. Projectiles can miss on moving targets, and the units don't get wonky in late games. It looks great, and after comparing AoE4, AoE3 DE, and AoM Retold side by side on highest graphics, it looks the best as well.

In short, it looks better than AoE4, it plays better than AoE4, and its civilizations actually feel different and more fun to play. As much as I have wasted countless hours of my life on the Age series, AoE4 is the only one where after years of owning it, I barely broke 50 hours.... This remake of AoM hasn't even released yet and I am already at that same range of time.

That's funny, I would say pretty much the opposite on these points.
There is no command delay, so units feel more responsive than AoE4. Obviously graphics are more detailed and there's a ton of physics too (units flying on impact etc.), unlike in AoE4, which has none. Battles aren't smaller either, the game has a higher pop cap than AoE4 so battles are in fact bigger (hard cap is 1000 pop, though 300-500 is more realistic depending on settlements). Even the optimization is surprisingly good, the game generally runs well despite having so many special effects and physics going on.

AoE4 runs on engine made for Company of Heroes, and it is completely outmatched here. The Bang engine was created from scratch for original AoM and it shows.

AoM:R is better than AoE4 visually at least and performance is very good , AoE4 visually wasn't anything special , one thing that annoy me about AoM:R is the camera zoom it kills the beautiful visual .

Agreed. Bang engine was designed for AoE in mind.
Essence engine is not bad but imo it works much better with Relic's original IPs.

AOM has better building destruction. If you are into rubbles, AOM will be more enjoyable.

Ill fancy those tech can't save AoM4 from simply being BORING.

AoM stories freakin good. And 4 factions AoM have(And gets 5th soon) are completely differend.

All i can honestly say good about AoE4, it sounds amaising, and only SOUNDs, music is also boring as hell, while AoM music(Specially Egyptians) is stll in my head.

I enjoy Aom Retold, but if u are used to Aoe 4, it will be fun for u, but in the end you will end up playing Aoe 4 again.

AOE 4 = Trash.
AOM RE = Not trash.

Aoe 4 is a souless bankrupt product that has production quality.
Aom re is a great game with a lot of personality and some frustrating mechanics that look like bugs.
Aom is so great, they improved it with retold, its just so refreshing to see 4 totally different factions with crazy myth units that can create new meta.
I am looking foward to the multiplayer after i am done with the campaign
