How is the AI?
Does the AI play a believable game like AOE2 or does it cheat and crap out like AOE3?
Thanks

Doesn't every AI cheat in RTS games? That's how they are "stronger" with higher difficulties.

Worse than in original game. 2 Missions were unplayable because ai spawns too strong. Even on medium difficulty.

easier on lower difficulties, but more challenging on higher ones

Which missions are you talking about?
I'm currently playing the Campaign in Titan, it's true that some missions are quite hard and I've had to restart a lot of times, but that's the fun part on the Titan mode, that you have no room to commit mistakes

Moderate AI, in skirmish mode, won't build additional town centers, even of they're sharing a starting location, like Acropolis...

18 and 30 are broken from moderate and up. 18 has endless spam of overpowered enemies and 30 sends two large armies after first 10 minutes are done. It can probably be done if you somehow cheese it but or do better preparation but for regular person (especially if they play it first time) its undoable.

Your units AI? Awful.

Enemy AI? Brutal.

AI is broken on the water maps - it can not handle it and became passive,

BTW, same issue is in AoE2 DE, where the AI is broken on the water maps too, it is not really "believable"

I can confirm it. Really disappointing. The AI is just broken on water maps. This was the biggest issue for me in the original game. Sucks so much to see the same crap in the totally new game.

On skirmishes so far i've not had team nor enemy AI attack... Unsure if im unlucky or something odd is going on.

Can confirm, AI is unable to migrate on water maps such as Team Migration and Vinlandsaga. Sometimes the AI breaks on Nomad as well, letting villagers just sit where they started, requiring Omniscience to find in the endgame. Moderate AI will not build additional town centers, making them laughably easy once you understand how the economy game differs in this version. I am disappointed, as the migration maps are some of my favorites. Haven't tried hard skirmishes yet, but I've been stuck on the 4th campaign mission on hard because the balance and timing is kinda ludicrous. Not too big on the costs of ♥♥♥♥ being different in this version, as it ♥♥♥♥♥ with the age timings and knowledge of how the first game flows. The game ends up flowing in a much more aggressive manor than i'm typically used to. The AI is somehow stupider and yet more aggressive at the same time (on moderate anyhow, hard seems to be just more aggressive period). The same problems can arise with the previous game where FFA matches will see you 11v1 AI because they all just decide you're the problem today at random. Would love to see at least the AI try to expand with this aggression instead of hold their turf and send out weakish attacking forces.

One thing i can say that i do like though is that I've noticed my AI opponents trying to counter my forces with the corresponding units. Not sure if that's by design or just coincidence, but I'll give it praise regardless for the experience of actually having a rock paper scissors style match going occasionally.

Mission 18 was rough on hard, but walling off 3 of the crossings helps a lot. Most of the enemy attacks will go for the 1 open crossing which means you only have to defend 1 location instead of constantly running to different places. The gold and wood from the mummy temples let you age up fast to the better units, then it becomes pretty easy.
