But you get rid of both by destroying buildings, because the AI will only rebuild a few buildings, like houses when they get supply blocked, or food depots etc. most buildings (including all army-producing) buildings stay gone for good once they are destroyed, so if you feel overwhelmed by endless waves it could be worth it so send some suicide squad to snipe a few of his key unit producing structures to both increase the time it takes him to reinforce his base with a defending army, and also to decrease the units that spawn in as a next-wave attack.
In all missions I played so far it looks like AI just doesn't rebuild it's production buildings so for example, if you destroy their fortress, no more siege.
It does rebuild it's resource gathering line though.
