They didn't give me that option, I had to buy the full new game for 50 bucks without any type of discount for having the old version.

That is to upgrade the normal Age of Mythology Retold to the Retold Premium Edition. It has nothing to do with Extended edition.

I don't understand, this is from the official web site FAQ:

"Already own Age of Mythology: Extended Edition on Steam? You can get a discount!
Just make sure to sign into Steam with an account that owns Age of Mythology: Extended Edition and the discount will show up in the store."
