Sooo I was using Proton 8 last night, worked fine, then today it didn't work on my Steam deck. I changed the Proton 9 and it didn't give me the error. My frame rate is at 45. But it's working fine now for me. Hope this helps a little

daym people try to play RTS in steam deck? How do you even play em using controller?

Plug in a controller and see for yourself. They clearly put some work into making it work on a gamepad. Tried the beta and while it took me a while to get used to it(where all the hotkeys are mapped etc) it felt very comfortable and nice to play. For that reason alone I may actually buy this.

Everytime you switch the proton version, it will launch fine the first time. But it will again crash the next time you launch with the same proton version.
It seems to be an issue with the steam OS version 3.5 .
It is working for me now after changing the system update channel to beta from stable which will update the OS to 3.6 .

akpsquest was saying switching TO Beta from Stable resolved it. I had similar success with this after trying 3 different proton versions on Stable to know avail. At this point I've restarted the Deck 3 times and launched Retold 3 times with no issues. Haven't played enough beyond that to comment on whether there's any gameplay crashes.
