Yeah, same thing here. This level used to be hard but not that hard. It's definitely a spike in difficulty compared to other levels in the same difficulty (I'm playing on hard and always used to play on Titan in the OG version of the game)

Have a look at other similar posts. I've done it on Titan and it has been by far the hardest so far (I'm finishing up the 1st campaign).
Some tips:
- Your initial force can tank the mummy temple to the East and the one to the South before you are raided, just make sure your heroes tank the hits;
- Use the resources obtained from the first point to age up;
- Close off the West side of the map asap to "channel" the incoming raids to the East (a bit of a cheesy tactic but it works);
- Priests are great against myth units and you should focus on elephants and spearmen/camel riders asap;
- Don't forget to find and mine the gold you can easily access, setup a trade network with your town centre (a cleaned out South is great for this);
- Build up a proper farm setup to swell up on food you can trade/use for elephants.

Good luck, save often and take your time. If you raid and destroy the temples East and West early on you'll mitigate the spawn of enemies and make this whole ordeal much more manageable.

I just managed to beat it. Just retreat to the west ASAP, build Farms, Towers and Several Fortresses and make a trade route far away but in a safe spot (To me, South Tomb was a good place). Build a lot of farms and keep trading food for gold. After this, I just waited until every single resource in the map was depleted and kept building several sons of osiris (7) with Priests, Elephants and some Petschucos. When The resources were about to end, I built some Catapults and started raiding the West and East temples. After this, I took back all the settlements in the south of the river and with enough population I managed to create a Huge army and destroy Gargarensins's base before chopping down the tree. It took almost 2 hours and a half but it should be easy but tedious this way...

Just keep in mind that Ra has a new passive. If you put your pharaoh to bless a monument, it will also bless anything around said monument, including other monuments. You can use this to your favor and create a chain reaction around your base, making your Fortress and Towers more effective while boosting your farmers at the same time. Don't forget to get rid of the tombs and create walls for your protection. Relic are also your friend so keep sending Chiron to take some that you spot on your map.

It was a fairly challenging level, getting raided quite often with decent sized forces.
But there's no time limit and no pressing challenge. (moderate)

Also pretty easy to amass an army. You just get 15 or so farmers and then your monuments. Get the food costing myth units (scarab beetle and the avenger I think?) and it's just free units. I also got a small market trade to the south. 11 gold per trip, 10 caravans. It's meh, but it works.

Wood in short supply but plenty of food and gold (selling excess food) meant I always had an army. Also your defensive buildings are really good. Consider a few towers / forts.

Once your force is large enough, go clear the right side and work your way in. Get second / third TC for popspace and it's easy enough to just amass units in the middle to finish.
