Why would you NOT want those two citizen heroes as Gaia? Even if you think the benefits are minimal (they're not), it's not like you lose anything by them being heroes.

Starting with 2 citizen heroes is quite nice, actually.
They are pretty decent against myth units;
not only do they get x3 bonus damage vs myth,
(with a base DPS of 11, which is already quite high))
but they also take less damage from myth units, like all heroes,
so myth unit rushing would be less effective vs Gaia.
Oracles dont defend themselves,
because they dont automatically acquire targets to attack.
This is because they would otherwise always run after enemy units,
which would result in them getting killed a LOT more often.
All this really means, is that if you want to use them for combat,
you need to micro them, which you should be doing anyways, especially with Oracles...
Their purpose is to gather favor, and vision, they simply arent a combat unit.
They were also meant solely as scouts in EE, btw.
Just dont use them to fight, unless it is really necessary.
Spider Lair isnt strong, sure, but it isnt really useless either.
They are extremely cheap, and allow you to make "minefields".
Their cooldown was reduced in the latest patch, (90s, from 120s)
which was why it was so weak before, so it should be more useful now.
The cooldown should be decreased further though, to 60s or even 30s. (imo)
Caladria has 3 abilities that each have 18 range.
18 range really isnt that bad, (it is more range than most archer units)
but perhaps their abilities could get 20 range. (the same range as arcus/chariots)
Behemoth got insane buffs compared to previous versions.
Several of their stats (hp, damage) literally got doubled.
With their regeneration, they are probably the best siege myth unit in the game atm.
So i honestly dont understand why you would think they are weak..
Argus also got buffed quite a bit, stats wise,
but its special ability did get a small nerf, as it no longer insta-kills units,
but on the other hand, the ability now has an area of effect,
so it could kill multiple (smaller) units, if used properly.
So not really a nerf: it all depends on how you use them.
Perhaps they could use a small buff to their special attack, like a bit more AoE.

I can verify this. And so could you, by the way, since you can see it ingame.
Regular citizens gathering f.e. hunt or wood, (without any upgrades)
gather at a rate of 1.5 resources/second, (compared to 1/s for Greek villagers)
while citizen heroes gather at a rate of 1.65 resources/second.
So indeed a 10% boost to income, compared to regular citizens.
wow i hadnt even considered that! I checked it, and youre right!
So yeah... upgrading your citizens to heroes may be a relatively small eco boost,
for what it costs, but simply the fact that they are so much harder to kill/raid,
already makes it worth it, even without the 10% eco boost. (imo)
What? You can double click them like any other group and it selects them all. Never hand an issue with full hero civilians.
