That being said, a lot of balance updates, changes to factions, god powers, how they work, rebalanced things, you name it. Ofcourse the general gameplay loop is the same, it's not a whole new game. But essentially with fixes/rebalances/more balanced or trying to be, better graphics, modernized etc.
Yes, there are changes to the gameplay too.
Gameplay has changed quite a lot.
A lot of units/factions/gods were (completely) rebalanced.
Godpowers can be cast infinitely, but all uses after the first cost favor.
(Atlanteans generally have cheaper GPs, and have more uses before it costs favor,
but their GPs are also generally weaker, just like in original and EE)
Wonders no longer create a "win condition timer",
instead they generate a ton of favor, reduce the favor cost of GPs to 1/4,
they make titans have x2 HP and damage, and it allows for multiple titans.
(each titan after the first costs a lot of favor, to build the titan gate)
There is a new structure called the "Village Center",
which is almost the same as Town Centers:
they dont need to built on a settlement slot, but have no attack,
and dont add any population. Its mostly for training villagers,
which is nice, as you can now keep playing and rebuild,
even if your last TC has been destroyed.
There is probably more things, that i forgot about,
but these are the biggest game changers. (bad pun intended xD )
I have played AoM since i was a kid, back when it was first released,
and i find retold even more enjoyable. I also made a few mods for EE,
(although i never published them, since i heard that retold was coming)
and many of the things i mentioned were things i added to my mods.
In fact, they did it in a much better way than was possible, with mods in EE.
(i made a "recastable godpowers" mod, but adding favor costs was impossible)
Sure, there are still a few bugs, but that is to be expected.
They have already announced several future bug fixes, (like fixing the AI)
and DLCs, so the devs are most certainly working on the game.
