I use it when I play with a friend in Jottunheim (For example). For me is like a last-stand mode, and its good and fun for me. But... There's a "but" for me with Frey: I don't want to play it with randoms or PvP because reasons you explained.
that strat really works on somebody?
Yeah for sure. I usually age up fast and get some hersirs with cav and use the fortress to block something strategic and then just spam units and push. Somehow most people can't deal with this I noticed. Vs good players they'll probably try to rush down your fortress
The fortress is nice to back up a push (and Norse infantry being able to build it keeps your Gatherers from wasting resources on build time) and Draugr are imo pretty nasty, but the early Rams cost so much for a very specific gamble. Thor or Odin rushing with Heimdall, even if you faceplant the rush, is less likely to snap you in half from over investment.
Even more stupid than the Ram gamble, is having your builders, rush units, scouts, and generally useful DPS units idling at zero DPS for... a short sprint boost. No idea what the idea on this was.
