Expand south for the wood and some hunt. As time goes on, make more and more farms. You don't need anyone on gold other than the donkeys.
Also, have a nice steady stream of military ships (and a scylla you get from going up to next age) - try to take down their docks, but always prioritize their military ships first. Once their docks are down, they don't rebuild them and you can delete those units to free up space.
If I recall correctly, I went dionysus and spammed hydras. By the end, go Hephaestus and build collosi. You'll have enough gold. Also when doing the big push for the end, make sure you keep spamming out units. You should have enough resources. Make sure the enemy don't get inside your base or attack your economy. Some walls and defending units are great.
Go for the south-west enemy base (where their caravans go) when you're ready to head out. Maybe you can attack it earlier than I could, but I had trouble because defending was already difficult enough. Had no units to spare for an attack. Once I was pumping out hydras, I could be aggressive with the southern base.
Finished the greek portion of the campaign last night and it's been quite tough at times. This was one of the "easier" missions. Just enough Rope and Bad News were pretty tough. Revelation, surprisingly, was also quite tough until I got the hang of how to properly engage.
GLHF!
Spam hydras, note that red wont make any archers, and pink will make only archers, so you can build dedicated armies to take down either of them.
I have some cheese for you, if interested. Premium cheese.
Quickly go up to 3rd with Freya, then build a dock and transport ship in the upper left pond. Put your units in there and wait for the reinforcements to arrive.
Once they arrive, rush with everything up to Gargarensis. Hit the giant armies nearby with the freeze god power and then quickly get to Gargarensis. I don't think you even have to attack him - you win instantly.
That mission was BRUTAL, I did it "legitimately" on moderate difficulty. I am glad there is this cheese because I have no idea how I would do this mission on Ludicrous. What does scare me is Mission 18 with the tree. That one is not as easily cheesable - I will have to go and rush the temples first and then get the migdols. Somehow. Rocs with siege, I guess? It will still be a micro nightmare.
I also cheesed mission 12 (the sleeping guardian one) but I think I could have done it legitimately. Other than the beginning section which required some micro, the main base did not seem that strong and I had a good economy going on. I was just impatient and wanted to get it done without too much hassle.
Atlantean campaign and final trident mission are also quite scary to think about. But I got this far - no reason to stop.
So I gave up on sea and just right away destroyed their gold camps with cavalry and rushed out walls between nearby hills. I don't know what happened, but they never attacked me. I guess the attack trigger broke or something.
