I know the game hasn't even been released yet (at night? Seriously?...) but from the Beta, we saw that Cyclops' special attack, which previously picked up a soldier from the ground, killing him instantly, and threw on their own companions causing damage, counting on an extremely long animation, but it was worth it.

Now the initial soldier he picks up to throw at the others no longer dies immediately, he only takes damage before hitting and damaging its own teammates, working basically the same way the Minotaur has always worked. However, the cyclops' animation takes much longer than the minotaur's animation. Without further study, I'm left wondering if it's worth taking the Minotaur right away or simply turning off this ability (now that it's possible).

Well, I'm not any kind of expert on AOM numbers or Ranked, so I'm bringing this discussion to more experienced minds: What is your opinion about Cyclops and the current functioning of his ability, focusing on the animation delay despite the initial soldier not dying? How did he compare to the Minotaur before and how does he compare now? He actually was Overpower before and this was nerf appropriate? Is he weak now? The animation isn't that long and this is all just me overreacting?

There's a discussion on the age of empires forums. Seems like Medusa and Mummy also don't do the instant kill anymore. It feels like a dumb change, but the devs might have their reasons for it. I can't tell until I get to try it out myself.

Seems like they did some rebalancing though, such as the medusa being cheaper and the mummy costing wood instead of gold. The cyclops also seem to do more attack damage to compensate for the change.

If cyclops do more DPS by attacking normally now, then I don't see why people would use the cyclops ability. Maybe the devs will adjust the damage the ability does as they get more feedback, but who knows at this stage.

My main problem is the delay in the Cyclops skill animation. It's very, very long, at the moment it seems difficult to make it worth it.

I don't have much of an opinion about the mummy, it always seemed like a very strange unit to me.

As for Medusa, I don't know the current state of the unit, I'll miss it but it really was Overpower. However, it is necessary to see the delay of the skills as well.
