Atlantean Pantheon, really?
I get that time and resources could be scarce back in 2003, but you guys had plenty of time to think this through. The mythology of a fictious civilization makes absolutely zero sense. To top it off, it just borrows elements from the Greek myths and repurposes as their own. I'm sorry to say it like this, but to me it has always felt like an uninspired mod. Even the Romans as a civilization, despite being closely related to Greek mythology, would be an improvement over the "Atlanteans". Nonetheless, there are obvious better candidates:

- Hindu Mythology;
- Celtic Mythology;
- Yoruba Mythology (West Africa);
- Ashanti Mythology (West Africa);
- Zulu Mythology (Southern Africa);
- Bantu Mythology (Central and Southern Africa);
- San (Bushmen) Mythology (Southern Africa);
- Dogon Mythology (West Africa);
- Igbo Mythology (West Africa);
- Chinese Mythology;
- Japanese Mythology;
- Philippine Mythology;
- Korean Mythology;
- Vietnamese Mythology;
- Mongolian Mythology
- Balinese Mythology (Indonesia)
- Mesopotamian Mythology;
- Mesoamerican Mythologies;

And these are just some of the most famous ones, there are plenty other. Besides, a good few of these civilizations figure in some of the games of the series, so it would be a nice idea, for a myriad of reasons, to include them in this one. Sigh.

Yes, really.
The Atlanteans have always been part of Age of Mythology.

The game is about MYTHOLOGY, not real world civilizations. There is no bigger mythological civilization than Atlantis.

If you had ever played the game you'd understand how the Atlantean actually fits into the game or even read a damn wiki page

I agree with OP, I never liked the Atlanteans. To me, they always felt like a cultural response to the war in Iraq (made by a Texan studio in 2003), with the Atties as an uber "chosen people" betrayed by their European roots and with the need to "bring the fight to them" when fighting the Kronos terrorists internationally… :-P

Edit: Didn't mean to offend anybody, just my interpretation of the Attie campaign and looking back at the noughties :-D

Except Kronos is also an european god, with no relation to Iraq, or any 21st century war.

The Atlanteans are in the game, because they were always in the game, since teh 1st campaign mission.
Atlantis is also THE mythological civilization that all other mythological and lost civilizations of fantasy are based on.

AoM is not a game about Bronze Age History and ancient civilizations. It is a game about MYTHOLOGY, first and foremost.
There is no bigger myth than Atlantis, a whole mythological civilization.

Some of these would be pretty tacky because they're still part of some modern cultures. Like Hindu and a lot of Japanese and Chinese stuff. It would be like having the Christian faction with Jesus and Angels and Samson slaughtering everything in sight

Yes, really.
The Atlanteans have always been part of Age of Mythology. (2)
How somebody even make doubts about that? This is so disrespectful to the series.
And also I hope that Chinese civ will never have such legacy and eventually will vanish.

You never played the original with the original expansion then apparently. I do not want to have a single one of these mythologies you just listed in the game, so deal with it.
