1 major god with all combinations of minor gods can be similar as 8 civs in AoE.
And 1 completely new CIV in AoM will give you 24 different combinations. As 24 new civs in AoE (if my math is correct).
So 1 new civ in AoM is not the same as 1 new civ in AoE. It is equivalent to 24 new civs...
It is shame that his minor gods can be chosen only with him. So...
IDEA: integrate his minor gods to other major gods as 3rd pick. For example: Thor gets Ullr to bost his berserk. Odin gets Aegir and Loki gets Vidar, to have 2 nuclear god powers to chose :)
opinion?
Well thing is minor gods are thought primarily (at least in Retold) according to a synergy with major gods of a given civ : Forseti/Loki, Nephtys/Isis, Oceanus/Oranos ... etc.
So adding one minor god per age for each major god most likely won't compromise the game on the long run yet it'll significantly upset and complicate the game's balance.
I really don't see why people are reluctant to see new civilizations or new major gods being added, making viable gameplay mechanics is the devs problem they are supposed to know what they're working with. No game mechanic is overly difficult to learnso far and if devs implement some of these they'll quickly have to revert/readjust through patching.
AoM's concept is very audacious and refreshing yet the civilizations that were initially chosen are pretty much the cliché/mainstream default choice when it comes to talk about mythology (Greeks particularly), people (including I) would appreciate to see more surprising choices. There are so much more ancient people's mythologies to talk about than the sempiternal Greek/Egyptian.
That said there'll be at least one unpublished civ after the Chinese, I suggest people wait and see how Retold devs integrate a civilization they have 0 previous base for and then make themselves an opinion on the subject.
I'd like to see a major god have access to both ullr and Skadi, to really go with a winter theme with both frozen forts and frost giants.
Even better if the major deity adds a bit to that as well, like maybe with an extra wall upgrade that makes them of ice.
Still hoping to see Frigg added to the Norse as a major god too, as Odin's wife she makes more sense as a major deity than Freyr who is less well known than his sister Freya who is a minor deity. And the Norse could use an option of a female major god.
Same for the Greeks, though for the Greeks Demeter is a shoe in.
I wouldn't count on that lol, they'll always make money on it since Freyr is a DLC and having access to a DLC major god minor gods through other major gods compromises that.
However now that Freyr has been released for the norse good news is the scenario of additional major and minor gods being added for other civs appears very realistic.
Pontus incoming for Atlanteans ?
