Underrated game with amazing visual design,game characters, environments. I'm not from South America, but it was an awesome experience with the music and the stories they told. We need more games like this, because right now too many games feel soulless and heartless. A game like this deserves to sell for more than $40.

first game i have played on steam, i love it! story is amazing! really happy with this being my first pc game!

Love the story; love the format of the game. The battle arena parts a bit repetitive, but it's worth it to get through them and progress through the story.

It's hilarious that I can lean out my front door and it sounds like this game.

I enjoyed this game a lot. It truly was a well woven experience told through the music, the characters, and the game play. It's a great game for people who aren't as interested in combat.

I can't emphasize how much I loved Hazel and her design! She was so fun to play and I can't wait to see future games from this company.

I know this game got a lot of hate prior to its release but I implore anyone who might be sitting on the fence to give this game a shot. There's so much deep love, creativity, appreciation for Southern American folklore, and talent just pouring out from this game. The music, art style, and story is just so enrapturing that it makes up for its, admittedly, barebones combat system. Anyway, give it a chance and I'm sure you'll find something to love about this game.

Overall I enjoyed it solid 6.5/10 game, nothing too fancy mostly carried by the visuals and music, story is okay I think they could've done more with it. And the chapters and characters in each chapter feel very compartmentalized with very little cohesion sometimes and just jumping from one plotline to another.

There's a few bugs as well and the quality of the game overall leaves a bit to be desired, you can get stuck in certain areas and other areas that look accessible and should be according to what you've seen aren't. The combat itself is pretty boring and mostly just a rinse and repeat without really being fun, it's serviceable and just there for this to be more of a game.

The exploration is also ok feels kind linear, there is no map system just a waypointer and your rewards for exploring are just lore and upgrade points which you should max out your upgrades even without getting them all.

Overall I enjoyed the game and thought it was worth $40, I think any more than that would be criminal but I also think how little this game sold is pretty criminal tbh just because the girl is black so it's automatically DEI or something (it really isn't)

There are good and bad black and white people in the game and I didn't feel any level of "racism" towards whites in this game. It's like if any white person is a villain it's automatically DEI, clown world your ancestors are the reason why the world is what it is today, take pride in the society your people have shaped, isn't it great?

In many ways this game reminds me of Psychonauts. They both invite you to immerse yourself into their worlds. South of Midnight digs into Louisiana folk tales, both dark, haunting and whimsical. If you explore it there is a fair amount to discover for the price tag and will keep you entertained for some 12-16 hours. Take your time and enjoy the ride that will take you from the bogs of bayou to the haunted streets of a dreamlike big easy where the mundane becomes the fantastical. As for game mechanics, progression and combat it isn't deep, but passable for the length of the story it aims to convey. On normal difficulty level this is more a casual stroll rather than a do or die adrenaline rush. All things considered I would not mind a sequel or DLC that continues the journey, or lets me linger a little longer.

Gameplay is pretty straightforward and simple, but that does not take away from the experience. Great music and I'm digging the story
