There already are. There are 3 distinct save slots.

I would rather have just a SAVE ON EXIT feature so that I didn't waste my time when I have to exit the game.

Alas it is not to be, and thus I refunded this game even though it looks good :(

When you go to start load a game or start a new game you see them.
