The story is really great, and there is definitely a good bit of folklore figures (or near-ish) to certain folklore from all over the South like Alabama's Huggin' Molly and Two-Toed Tom of the Gulf Coast.
As mentioned before, the Rougarou is definitely present (after a fashion.)
I'd say that the strongest Nawlins influence definitely comes into play in Chapter 12 of the game, but I feel it's worth waiting that long because you'll get caught up in the story by then.
MC is like a Shadowman/Loba fusion, so good! They even gaved her freckles.
Also, I love crouton.
