Is there a good video review of this game?
First off, I don't care about the culture wars aspect to this game. I'm aware it has "woke content," and I'm willing to overlook that.

What I'm interested in is the gameplay and immersion, as I absolutely love the kind of world this game takes place in and have wanted a title that explores it forever. However, what I'm not willing to overlook is bad game feel and performance.

So does anyone here know of some good video reviews that touch on these? I've read the Steam ones, but I'd really like a visual review that can show the gameplay. Thanks.

Just search the game name and add review after it..

I did that, and the first review that comes up is called "South of MIDnight is Complete ♥♥♥♥ (Review)." Two of the next four are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about wokeness. I don't really want to waste time with bad faith reviews, so I'm asking for a recommendation of a reasonable one here.

Maybe that will give you a hint about the gameplay.

You will see gameplay, even in very biased reviews

From watching breakthroughs of it, game play is the weakest side of it. A lot of people were charmed by the style. But those who played pointed out less than great gameplay.

Was gonna send the link to Mortisimal's review but someone linked it and that is the one he even goes into his personal experience growing up during this review and how true to the experiences the game is, there's other really good reviews but most of them are written as opposed to recorded.

The style is amazing for anyone who loves meticulous animation since everything is stop motion but if it was just style it wouldn't be as widely discussed. The thing most people who enjoy it like the most is it's story and world-building. It's like an Uncharted game with the emotional complexity and depth of a storytelling game like Life Is Strange. Gameplay is literally just on par with that of an Uncharted game, minus the guns.

itl be on gamepass tomorrow. but from what i gather if u enjoy combat, look someone else. the combat is so mundane they even added a option to skip it entirely after u platform for a bit u get stuck in a area type battle with pretty much the same enmeies over and over. u have a skill tree but its very basic and not game changing. my advice? play something more worth ur time and or money. your average gamer can take one loook at this game and just tell its not that good. if ur a gamer that just plays once in a while just check it out on gamepass. if u dont have gamepass, do a free trial

Brother, adding more options for people who don't like fighting and just want to see the story while interacting with it is not a bad thing, no one forces you to do that. I wish Uncharted had that because it literally has worse combat. And NO Uncharted fan would challenge me on that, at least this is fast, simple, and if you don't like it you don't even have to engage with it. Gaming is an interactive medium, not a fighting one. The first 3D games from Japan had literally no combat and were entirely based on storytelling + worldbuilding, games that inspired directors such as Guillermo Del Toro and David Lynch. Gaming is an art form and gaming is for everyone, stop trying to tear it down from that. If gaming was made exclusively for you, none of these companies would ever make enough to stay open.

This is a reflection of your search and media consumption history. Skillup has a good early impressions video. https://youtu.be/o9RVFj3tY4c?si=6T_ZVSKM7VHMk4Kv

What do you mean with "gaming is an interactive medium, not a fighting one"? The biggest "area" of gaming is about competing, fighting, dominating etc. (games that are played in competitions)...

Now, it's true that fighting is not necessarily the main mechanic in absolutely every game but I'd be ready to bet that it's the mechanic that is the most present in ANY type of video game, ever... Coding (not gaming) is an art, yes, but it HAS found the best waves to surf on... Fighting is the biggest one of them...

Literally, the first games ever made, had no combat. That's not an opinion, that's a fact, games that founded companies based off their popularity. While competition is a thing, gaming has always, will always be the most interactive medium first and foremost I'm not talking about "fighting games" or competitive games, purely the concept of combat in a videogame, that came after and those releases were still peered with games that weren't that because if all games were that gaming would just be a niche. Unless you think gaming started at the NES era cause then you'd have no idea about any of this and would just think combat existed in games since the birth of gaming. (Games have existed, and been played, since at least the late 50s and the first ones were made by scientists with no game development experience, just big ideas)

Yes, and the first movies ever made were silent and in black & white and the first music ever made (no idea by what ancient empire) probably didn't sound like Taylor Swift; what's your point? Are you against evolution in art?

The oldest console that I know the name of is the Commodore 64, but even if I was a teenager that thought that the NES was the first video game console, sure, I'd be wrong about THAT, but it doesn't invalidate what I'm saying... What if the first game ever made was The Oregon Trail? Would that instantly mean that THIS is true gaming and nothing else is? + The NES WAS a massive giga-blooming moment for gaming, let's not deny that.

Will combat STILL be the most popular game mechanic ever in 100 years? I don't know, maybe not, but right now, it is, even if you don't like that.

This is such a weird and dumb tangent / argument. No, videogames are not inherently about fighting. Many have combat in them, but there are plenty that don't. Puzzle games, physics games, visual novels, and more. Plenty of people are still playing tetris. Just because many games have combat, doesn't mean games are combat. Like any artistic media, videogames can be about a lot of things. This isn't a difficult concept.

Now, there are people who might not like games that don't include combat of some kind. And that's fine. Different tastes and all that. But that is a separate matter.
