Is this game Tim Burton inspired?
For a while it seemed to be the case, but then it kinda veered away from it. Was that intentional?

I don't think so. I think Tim Burton's style is just extremely well-known in the gothic genre and claymation spaces. Even Seuss was doing the swirly types of environments long before Burton, and that was very cartoony and lacked a gothic touch. From what I understand, a lot of Burton's style has Expressionism influences, and some of that can be seen in this game, too. Expressionism has been around since long before Burton or any of us playing this game.

While I definitely understand seeing Burton's style in some of the art due to potentially having similar influences, I don't think he would have been even the primary inspiration. The creators have been pretty clear that this was mostly inspired by African American, Southern folklore, and looking at some of the art created by those communities in that area, I see it very strongly throughout the game.
