Me, personally, I make characters that look like myself and use them as a cypher which helps with immersion.
Also I, personally, do not hate when I'm forced to play specific characters. Merely a preference. I have a hard time understanding why men want to play as female characters in video games. Again no hate.
I don't feel as invested in the character. Although, with full customization of the character comes a certain watering down of the story. Elements have to be broad enough to fit together with different choices etc. It can be done if the proper time and care is taken, but it is difficult in my opinion.
So while I prefer games where I can create an incarnation of myself, I am glad there are tightly woven stories that revolve around a single character. Plus any game that embraces this art style gets points from me. Hopefully it does well. I would enjoy watching someone play this while I dump a few more hours into Wrath of the Righteous. XD
I believe it was the developer of this game herself that said that 'you need to see yourself represented in the protagonist'. So unless you are a black woman of the protagonist age, the game was not made for you
Oh my God "not made for you" just stop it. You people are ridiculous.
What are you expecting? The faulty feminist representation argument will at some point be used against it's proponent.
