Shifts
Do shifts get longer at some point?
I'm at stage 2, since I need to probe for weapons now, I can only screen 5 people instead of the usual 16, which is quickly taking a toll.

They do not. However, you don't really need to worry too much about having a high completion rate. I've played through the game 3x (on other platforms) and there seems to be no fail state. All you get for doing a good job is more money and faster progress on any mission you might have. So you can process 1 person a day and make 20 mistakes and it won't do anything except drag out the process. Take your time and enjoy the game at whatever pace is most comfortable for you instead of being sweaty about the score. Unless that's what you want.

A quick tip if you're looking to improve your speeds. Spoiler box for those who don't want any hint.

Unless this changed for the steam release, every 'variant' lets call them, always carries the same weapon. So the noble women will always have needles on their thighs, the nuns will always have a dagger in their bosom, etc. Makes it very easy to do a quick touch check for any weapons once you start recognizing them. You will also eventually be able to buy a metal detector from the merchant which will beep automatically whenever someone has a weapon on them if you want to make it super easy.

Weapons slow you down at lot of first, but later you can buy an item that will automatically tell you if someone has a weapon, so you don't have to bother looking unless it goes off.

As for your actual question, I think it varies from area to area. The final level is a pretty short timer I believe, for instance, but it also kind of makes since considering what you're doing.

But yeah, weapon checks really slow you down for a while, but it stops being much of a concern once you get the scanner thingy. Still sucks if it isn't obvious like on their back, but it's much better than having to guess or check everyone.

another trivk you vould do is undress the top and they will either need to turn around or the wepaon will be in plain view. if they refuse to relinquish hte weapon just a touch or two will make them let is go
