Suikoden 2 is #1 on my all time list.
So few pixel JRPGs with this quality.
Nothing here will be a surprise, but you never know when someone hasn't played a classic.
(DS version is the best. Most of the added content is meh, but the added ending ties it better to Chrono Cross. If you get the PC version you'll want a font mod but the rest of the game is relatively true, even if people still fool themselves into believing the tiling issue wasn't on the older versions. PS1 version has anime cutscenes by the late Akira Toriyama, but you can watch those online and play a better version.)
(If you get the Pixel Remaster, you'll need a few mods to decensor and return the glory of its pixel perfection. Avoid the PS1 version at all costs. GBA is arguably the best release, but the PC version at least has mods that can restore content censored even from the US SNES release and doesn't deal with GBA color oversaturation.)
(Remade into Second Story's gameplay as First Departure on PSP.)
(PSP is the best, even if they did re-voice it.)
(Still huffing copium for the whole Quintetverse on PC. It's also arguable if this qualifies as a JRPG, but it's traditionally listed as such even though it's more of an Action Adventure a la Legend of Zelda.)
(Versions are about the same if memory serves. Can't remember if the PSP release fixed the ear-destroying sound issues with the PS1 release. If you play it, don't wear headphones as much as the glorious music will tempt you. The audio bug is physically, literally painful.)
(S'too bad when Namdai Banco said they'd release the classic Tales games on PC, they meant one botched port of overrated Symphonia which was, itself, mostly plagiarized systems from Legaia 2: Duel Saga.)
1. Arc the Lad II (psx)
Similar to suikoden, u can convert save data from arc the lad to arc the lad II for more complete experience, and it's sublimly worthit
2. Lufia II (snes)
A prequel to lufia, so no save data convert, but the dungeon crawling is the best that i ever seen
Since you guys are recommending other games:
Arc the Lad II, it also have a save transfer system if you played the first (kinda weak, like Suiko 1, but it's short), Arc the Lad III is a more lighthearted game but it kinda shows what happened with the world and the characters after the second game (I like to say that it's a fan service game lol).
Because of Arc the Lad II I can't play slow paced strategy games anymore.
