Suikoden 1 - Trouble Recruiting Leon Silverberg

Gosh dang it. And spoiler alert I think.

It looks like I totally missed the chance to recruit this guy. I only have two save files, but unfortunately, theyre not that far from each other.

1. Before going to Shasarazade

2. After Shasarazade before Gregminister war.

If I try to recruit him in my first save (before Shasarazade), I can't talk to Mathiu without triggering the Shasarazade attack...

If I try it in my second save, also same, it will trigger Gregminister war and this sucks.

Is there really no way to get him anymore? I am itching to play Suikoden 2 because that's my favorite but I want to see all of it that's why I started in 1.

I don't want to do it all over again pls 🤧

You won't get the True Ending, but you can still recruit him after the battle. Keep more saves in these old 90s games as they, hopefully, keep remastering them.

The true ending is Gremio gets resurrected after Shasarazade. Instead of just the hero in a picture at the end, you see the hero and Gremio. Gremio will also be there in Suikoden 2 with the hero and he'll give you a recipe.

You'll still get all 108 Stars for the achievement.

After the ice boats are made and you get to Shasarazade, I have seen some people say you can IMMEDIATELY go back to the HQ without talking to anyone on that little landing. They say he'll be there to give you the letter.

But I haven't tested that out to know for sure.

Omg you are my hero!!!! Thank you so much! He IS there!! Totally saved in a new slot. I had already recruited in my second save with just like 5 left, now I have to do them all again, but at least won't have to start a new game.

Ah ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I am so mad right now. I have 107 stars and this was the last person I was having problems with. I cant believe I wont be able to complete now cause I only made 1 save slot and im after Shasarazade I had no idea this would be a problem.

I was playing from the head and it's more than 20 years since I last played Suiko 1 and I also missed him again, so I had to restart (old habits of only owning 2 saves because if this was on PSX I had to conservate my memory card slots).

I had to replay and this time I took notice of how bad the writing and choices are in this game, it reminds me those awful game ADs (save person /let him die lol), when Mathiu asks if you want to depart for battle rarely you can say otherwise (for saving the game and not screw yourself off), one of my most omg moments was in the elf village questline, I was asked of what should I do and I chose to back to the castle, they interrupt me and says that we don't have time for that, then I proceed to walk away to my castle anyways.

Recruit him when you get your castle at level 4.
As far as i remember you can recruit him by going to him to Kaleeka "Oh mf you got strong, stay hard" blha blha..... then go to Mathiu he will give you a letter for Leon. Give the letter to Leon. and the shazam yo got him.

You should try to recruit him before Moravia

Okay, the absolute best time to recruit him is right around the time Kasumi and Krin are arguing over something on the ground level in your castle. You should have by this point got just enough ppl to level the castle to max. Yes, you do get another chance but it's best get it done before Shasarazade. I think in original, a problem that usually happened was it would temporary remove characters from the 108 stars list when certain events played out. I think that is fixed in this remaster making it easier to get the castle to lvl 4 when u need it.

As I mentioned in another post. this guy is definitely one of hardest recruits to get in S1 because of how short of a window u have to recruit him and ppl trying to get all 108 for first time ever without any guide. Reason being is first, the castle must be max, and Maithu must be not occupied and this is one of the rare moments he's not occupied after lvl 4 castle.

It's mostly the fact you find him earlier by following the Old Books but he just doesn't say anything other than telling you to get more people which is a hint but still a pain going back to check on him and your castle when you get a new recruit lol.

(Yes, the old books give you a clue Leon will be there as he is referenced in entries talking about the Kalekka incident)

Like I said sorta, problem is the timing to being able to recruit him after HQ lvl 4. At least the window to recruit him in time is bit longer than the 108th person.

Yeah the old books are good hints, they give you details on numerous stars of destiny.
