Time limit to recruit character
Hey all,

In Suikoden 2 I think (or was it 1), I vaguely remember that there was a character that had a time limit to be recruit-able. If you spent too much time in the open world doing stuff like leveling or exploring, the trail would go cold and you could no longer get that character.

Are "time limited characters" still a thing in this remaster?

You have an option in the remaster to disable/enable the timer. So it's entirely up to you if you want one character to be missable because of the time limit just like in the PS1 version or not.

Yes, it's still a thing. Clive's quest line has very strict timestamps to trigger every event.
So it's best to stop the clock after a few hours. You need at least an hour or maybe two on the clock to trigger Pilika being home in Toto at the very early stages of the game.

Ah so that's why the story line wouldn't continue for me. I stopped the clock within the first few minuets in S2 and got to that point and I was like what's going on.

It's only about Clive event, there's no characters with time limit to be recruited, but they can be missed for a whole of other reasons.

You only have to see the first event or two to recruit Clive in 2, -most- of the time limited events take place -after- he has officially joined up, and is more of an easter egg than anything.

Just make sure you encounter Elza and Clive twice in Muse before you're forced to flee down to South Window early in the story, and you'll be able to recruit Clive in South Window -after- you recruit Tai Ho/Amada and take your boat out on the lake at least once.
Thanks all for the responses. However, can I just turn off time limit in options, and not have to micro-manage Clive?

You can turn off the timer, but you still have to take him with you through the quest. You're just not rushed.

Thanks though if I reach a point of no return, it is still possible to fail his quest right?

The only thing that has changed is they let you turn the timer off.
