Suikoden 1 HQ not leveling up to 4 for anyone else?

I have 93 stars and it still hasn't leveled up. Crowley won't come with me. No one is sitting at the organ the Necro palace.

You can recruit Leon until before the Moravia castle fight as far as i remember...

I watched through a handful of Playthroughs on Youtube and they all do the same mistakes I'm assuming you all did and go from Neclords to Blink Mirror to Floor 4 and proceed with the story.

What they should be doing is going from Neclord to Blink Mirror and immediately exiting the castle by boat and re-entering.

And that's assuming they've recruited all the characters they can up to that point. Including the level 40 one since they're now level 40+, Rubi, and the recruiting X amount of characters guy.

Manage to up Suikoden 1 castle to level 4 with 90+ star chars. I am at the current stage of finish off Neclord, recruiting Hix and Tengaar in the party and Viktor left the party temporary. I counted my heroes stars I have 90 heroes with me at that time, so I try my luck. After getting book volume 6 knows about Clive at Rikon village, I proceed to recruit him and manage to get him join us. I blink back to my castle, take the boat ride to Kaku do some searching on the map then return to Kaku village taking the boat back to the castle. When I did, there is a cut scene showing my castle is now with blue feather like banner on top the castle scenes. Proceed back to the castle, I found that my bed room bed, from the left side was shift to the middle section and with a turquoise color tapestries on the floor, thats how I know my castle is level up. My main char Tir is at level 49 at that time.

With Clive joining my group, I have 91 stars of heroes, I try my luck to proceed to Qlon temple cave there to recruit Crowly the archmage, I manage to recruit him to join the group, after that, I try my luck to proceed Kalekka to approach Leon the strategist, unfortunately he is just surprised our group had grown so much still didnt join us. (My star of heroes was at 92, included Clive and Crowley)

All this, was right before triggering the dragon knight campaign. I play the game with some partial memory many years ago and some spoilers in the discussion here. Ray Rook is right, u can get the level 4 castle right before trigger the dragon knight campaign.

Hey! Just want to give a quick answer to this after this happened to me in my PS5 Playthrough!
Technically, yes you can get the Castle level 4 update after you beat Neclord. However, when you go back home, do not use Blinking Mirror and you must either manually walk from Neclord castle to your base or avoid triggering the cutscene when you enter the castle via Blinking Mirror.
The reason for this is that you "Physically" need 90 SOD to trigger the castle upgrade (If you walk back, you will manually trigger this). However, if you returned home via Blinking Mirror and triggered the cutscene, this causes Krin and Kasumi to elope (If you check the party selection screen, they will actually be gone!). This counts as "Going Away/Missing" like Viktor or Gremio, which causes you not to be able to upgrade the castle.

It is quite a technicality but it does happen, which is annoying. Do not fear though since you still have enough time to recruit Leon following the Dragon Fortress Arc. Just avoid resting in your room and you should still be able to recruit him

Lets be honest, after Neclord or after Dragons Den- who cares? You have the event before the night of Moravia, with all char slots empty, and in this time frame you are able to complete anything.

It‘s just pure nonsense if you can recruit ppl 30 mins earlier or not, and waste two pages of discussion only because of „wohooo, but i did it earlier!

The topic is complaining about not getting castle level 4. Discussing when you can get castle level 4 is important. So is clarifying the mechanics of the game on the video game boards topic.

What is a waste of discussion is someone going into the topic to just say they don't care about the topic.

And, further, in a game where you can very easily miss things I'd argue that it's best to try to optimize how you're recruiting and the timeline. Especially this late in the game.

You also get access to some of the best characters in the game for Dragon's Den. A highly farmable area for a couple items. The guide also even mentions getting speed rings for a character you can't get otherwise by that time.

Ye, OP neither talked about optimization which requires strict and unnecessary tasks at a specific time. And what for? Are you unable to do one dungeon in an already easy game without those chars? But please, don‘t use Blinking mirror, march to the castle, do every thing before Vic leaves for the sake of getting things half an hour earlier and just farm later.

Or just ignore all that elitist, speedrunning bullsh…, play that one dungeon and do everything chilled afterwards. But ye, we are all totally lost in Dragons Den without Crowley or Pes, or Clive… sure

And no, for someone who just wants to collect all stars, and having problems finding it- no, this half hour more story play isn‘t important, because you miss nothing…when making things just unnecessary complicated and arguing about it.

Ok so you can get Leon AFTER speaking to Joshua once returning from Seek Valley? Because I trekked back all the way to HQ on foot from the Dragon Fortress BEFORE speaking to Joshua and still no cutscene.

Every possible recruitment could be done in the last night after Moravia before heading to Shazarasade. You are not locked with any group members, and Mathiu isn’t locked either (get the letter for Leon and not trigger anything story related, because sleeping in your bed will advance the plot.

But this is at least for Leon also the last possibility to get him.

Ok got Clive, Crowley, Pesmerga, and Mace. When I go to talk to Leon he just says he's the last person in that ghost town. And when I go to speak to Mathiu he just asks if I want to change party members. Did I bone myself out 108 stars somehow?
