I hope that Suikoden III, Suikoden IV, and Suikoden V will also be released as remasters on Steam. As far as I know, you can transfer your Suikoden II save file to Suikoden III. I wonder if that's official or just a mod/patch – it seems to unlock additional dialogues. I've seen Let's Plays about it. I also hope that if remasters for the other parts are planned, a German translation will be included.

As much as i'd like to have 3 and 5 on steam, i'd rather have the franchise moving foward first. The problem being that a remaster of those could very well end up killing the serie a second time.

I can already picture the wave of negativity about Suiko3 early ps2 3D, the map/transition zones, thomas chapters and the rushed endgame, suiko5's early pacing, the few brutal missables, and well, most of Suiko4 actually.

Indeed, I have only played Suikoden 1 and 2 so far, and I’ve only partially kept up with the rest. Somewhere I read that Suikoden 3 is a prequel to Suikoden 1 and 2, and I only recently found out that there are spin-offs. I had assumed that the other entries were no longer connected to the story of Suikoden 2, so I was wrong about that. All the more reason to hope that we’ll get to learn more about Sierra and the other characters. I’m really happy about your info that there’s even more story content about Sierra.

Looking at the overall story structure of the series, Suikoden 3 is set 15 years after Suikoden 2, so you lose a lot of the close story tie ins that you had from 1 -> 2 like Viktor and Flik. Also, while you got great value out of going 100% on S1 and carrying over the save file to S2, there was practically no value in doing the same from S2 -> S3 which was massively disappointing. Like you just got an extra play for the theatre in your castle or something like that. Other than that though, I would still say S3 did a good job carrying the broader story forward.

What S2 was to S1 I would say S4 should have been to S3, but instead this is where Konami really messed it up making it a preque, something like 100 years before S1 and completely abandoned the broader overall story and save game carryover. . My opinion when I played it, was that they tried to 'SquareSoft' it blowing their budget on higher end 3D graphics, cut scenes, and voice acting, and had to cut corners on everything else to accommodate. Like they didn't even adjust the encounter rate between Japanese and Western release.

S5 was Konami going back to 'classic' Suikoden and was overall a really a good game, but there was zero connection to the rest of the series and that was basically the end of it. We had the transition from PS2 to PS3 era and so many great JRPG series died with it, my personal favourite Suikoden included. I love the renewed interest but its going to be hard to properly resurrect the series.
S4 is the first Suikoden without Murayama. It's obvious they lost the magic. They don't know how to move the story without the creator so they went to make the prequel hundred years before S1.

S5 is when they decided they experiment so much on S4 they think it doesn't work, that's why they make S5 with the same formula like S1 and S2. While this looks good, it makes the story very predictable.

TBH, it's not really Konami fault or anyone. It's just no one can replace Murayama vision, even with Junko Kawano help.

Murayama had everything he needed for Eiyuden and it's not a good game. I just don't agree with people that keep putting these developers on pedestals.

People seem to still believe Murayama left midway through S3 when the man debunked that two decades ago so whatever is wrong in S3 is all him and Konami gave him free reign over that game. Lightning didn't strike twice for S3.

Eiyuden is still a good game especially for the gameplay. It expands the rune system and way better than suikoden rune system. Give it skill system like in 3, and we will have the best.

The bad thing about Eiyuden is how they toned down the story for all age ratings. The plot was okay but the presentation and pacing is bad.
