Battle freezes when trying to recruit one of the squirrels

If this is also happening to you, you're not alone. I tried on both my desktop PC and my Steam Deck and the battle freezes both times. I left one character slot open to recruit the squirrel guy in a random battle around Greenhill. I input commands, auto battle, whatever, all the characters disappear on the screen with the background intact and the music keeps going.

Then I gave up on it, filled up the 6th slot and went about my day, now the battles run fine again. Hopefully, there will be a fix for this. Maybe a scripted scene combined with a random encounter causes the crash? Doesn't look like the squirrels are missable so I'm fine coming back to it.

There's a few crash scenarios. They posted a thing on X about a patch coming.
