Japanese players overwhelmingly play mobile games.
Okay, more and more likely this is a supporting game and not a main storyline game. From the interview:
Interviewer: Are we including past characters in the 108 stars this time?
Fujimatsu-san: Generally speaking, there are going to be 108 new Stars including the hero.
Interviewer: So whole new characters!
Fujimatsu-san: Yes. You will have a whole new story.
Interviewer: We will meet 108 new Stars there.
Fujimatsu-san: Yes. Yes
Interviewer: Maybe some battling alongside past characters?
Fujimatsu-san: That is also included. As mentioned the main story will take place in the same world, so you may encounter past characters and sometimes even team up with them. As a common aspect for mobile titles, you can also create a dream team with past characters.
I'm hoping this game will be successful to serve as a fund for more console/pc suikoden type of game
They talked about an anime, a concert, a stage and a new mobile game.
And they said all that is step two, being step one the Suikoden 1&2 remasters.
Also, they want to build a strong comeback for suikoden, hence step 1&2.
They also want steps 3 and 4,
This is Konami, not known for showing love to Suikoden but this is also not your typical pachinko and merch event.
This is commercial strategy for "a strong comeback", and even if i am not into mobile games, I cant help but notice this is going somewhere, should things go/sell well.
The concert will bring back fans to the series because the music incredible. This has the greatest potential because you don't have to have played the games to appreciate the music.
Their intention with anime is to bring in new fans who haven't played the older games (specifically Suikoden I/II) and introduce a new perspective towards events for older fans to ponder. Given the high quality of the animation from the visual novels and the intro of Suikoden III they had better not be cheap with the animes animation quality. That of course is secondary as to whether or not the director can effectively convey the established story from the games through the anime. This could go very well or end up very bad.
The new game is meant as a modern entry point into the game series without molesting whats already been established. The problem (ftom my older perspective) is that its on a mobile platform. However, if I approach this with the understanding that a mobile phone is just a modern day handheld gaming system (i.e. PSP, GBA, NDS, etc) then it I imagine it could work. Gameplay and story will be what determines success or failure as with any single player game. Also, in the interview they stated they recorded 150 pieces of orchestra music for this mobile game. So this isn't your typical mobile game as far as scope is concerned. The inclusion of gachapon elements is not promising however.
The stage play is going focus on Suikoden I's main character and attempt to portray his tragic fate. Success or failure boils down to the production and execution.
So we have one likely success in the concert, two medium budget maybe's (anime & stage play), and a BIG budget maybe (large scope mobile game).

Star Leap was listed as "Suikoden STAR LEAP the mobile Ver."
So I'm hoping that means a PC / Console version is in the cards, at least.
If you're referring to the summary placard @ 1:17:18 that literally reads:
Probably doesn't mean anything, but I'm hopeful regardless.
I think we should give it a fair shot, it really looks like they are putting a lot of effort into this game, a lot more than any of the spin offs. Perhaps they chose mobile to reach the most customers since everyone has a smart phone but not everyone has a pc/console.
Although I do agree it's a very risky move, but perhaps Konami didnt want to spend too much money until they know for sure people are willing to spend it too.
Exactly. Aiming for a greater audience. From a commercial stretagegy point of view, seems a wise move.
Would I have preferred a pc/console Suikoden 6? Hell yeah, but I dont get why so much negativity about all these news...Konami is paying attention to Suikoden after 15-16 years, almost 20 years if we count since Suikoden 5.
Hopefully the mobile game is more of a demo/feeler for what can be done.
I just want 3-5 remastered now but that will take an age considering the engines involved.
They could've taken a shot at WoW/FFXIV with a Suikoden MMO with a cash shop loaded down with cosmetics and what not.
Or a Suikoden version of TF2/Overwatch/MRivals filled with loot boxes.
Depending on how predatory the gacha elements are, and power creep, a Suikoden mobile game might NOT be the worst thing ever. I don't have a great deal of faith, but the music and visuals all looked very promising. If nothing else, it looks like a good game is buried in it.
What enrage me the most is that probably they delayed Suiko release last year to be released now along of those revelations only to generate hype, at least for me it backfired because I'm not interested on gachas, maybe if this was 10 years ago I would give a try, I already have gacha-burn.
The whole thing reminds me to much of when bilzzard announced diablo immortal, fans wanted a sequel or remaster and we get a bad looking mobile game and it feels like an out of season April fools joke. Much disappointment
