Glad that someone agrees that the contrast between old and new does not look good.
Why won't they though I mean they did all the backgrounds.
Surely it can't be too much to ask.
I personally think they should be an option for old and new sprites for the player to choose from.
What about the cut scenes (if the game has any ?)
I'm curious how you played it already to know this. I'll reserve judgement until I play it myself, but I guess I'm living in the crappy timeline where I don't get to play and judge the game until it's release date :(
Just ignore this its not constructive to the debate this thread was created for.
The old backgrounds are very rough. the new ones really breathe new life to the game. I just wish they touched up the sprites the way DQ3 HD-2D remake has done to their sprites.
I agree that an option for original backgrounds should be present since well the OG sprites are present. But I disagree that upgraded sprites should not be included as well.
If the devs / publisher included upgraded redrawn sprites as an option then the gamers can have best of both worlds to their individual tastes and the debate would be resolved.
The upgraded backgrounds looks pretty nice IMO - But the contrast against the OG sprites. The OG sprites are just too PIXELATED they should redraw the sprites as well.
Can't call it a proper Remaster unless they do IMO.
If anything, I expect that someone passionate from the community will make a mod just for that.
It is unlikely as noted, but still a major bummer. I totally understand sprite art is still a thing, but the FF Pixel Remasters came out not too long ago and they redid their sprites so they don't look out of place on modern TV's. Suikoden does have a lot more characters though, so maybe it wasn't in the budget. I'll have to see it in action when it comes out and if I still can't deal with it, I'll wait for a sale. I have a huge backlog in my library anyway.
Of course I would absolutely love HD Sprites, no questions about it, but It doesnt seem to be as intrusive as I expected it to be before playing Star Ocean SS R .
