I'M NOT LIKING THE PIXEL SPRITES ON HD BACKGROUNDS - PLZ ADD HD REDRAWN SPRITES DISCUSS !!
Title - ..

The contrast between pixel sprites that are blown up x2 or x4 against the HD backgrounds is Horrible.

The game is called HD remaster so might as well remaster the dam sprites as well.

Just stating my Opinion and curious to see who else agrees and disagrees.
(Not played this before so no spoilers)

I kinda agree with that. Well, I don't think they will redo the sprites but maybe an optional filter for them would do the trick?

For me it's ok. But I do hope if this is a success financially and they do decide to remaster the rest that they do it the way Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D had done it. Basically maintaining the sprite style but bringing it all to modern visuals etc.

Glad that someone agrees that the contrast between old and new does not look good.

Why won't they though I mean they did all the backgrounds.
Surely it can't be too much to ask.
I personally think they should be an option for old and new sprites for the player to choose from.

What about the cut scenes (if the game has any ?)

I'm curious how you played it already to know this. I'll reserve judgement until I play it myself, but I guess I'm living in the crappy timeline where I don't get to play and judge the game until it's release date :(

This is like a stock excuse from your memory banks you throw out without even seeing if it applies. We can't even claim to know what the game looks like without playing it? Like you're holding out that in a few days they're going to show the graphics are completely different from the screenshots? I can see the wisdom in trying some new game's gameplay before judging it, but acting like we can't comment on what it looks like is baffling.

Just ignore this its not constructive to the debate this thread was created for.
The sprites should not be touched. If anything, I'd appreciate an option to switch to the original backgrounds - even though I know they were sometimes rough in Suikoden 1.

The old backgrounds are very rough. the new ones really breathe new life to the game. I just wish they touched up the sprites the way DQ3 HD-2D remake has done to their sprites.
I agree with OP. But the sprites look way better (at least in Suikoden 1) in the trailer. They should've given the original backgrounds the same treatment and it would've looked way more unilateral.

I agree that an option for original backgrounds should be present since well the OG sprites are present. But I disagree that upgraded sprites should not be included as well.

If the devs / publisher included upgraded redrawn sprites as an option then the gamers can have best of both worlds to their individual tastes and the debate would be resolved.

The upgraded backgrounds looks pretty nice IMO - But the contrast against the OG sprites. The OG sprites are just too PIXELATED they should redraw the sprites as well.

Can't call it a proper Remaster unless they do IMO.

It's unlikely they're gonna add upgraded sprites when the game is about to be released, or even upgrading them in the future patches.

If anything, I expect that someone passionate from the community will make a mod just for that.

It is unlikely as noted, but still a major bummer. I totally understand sprite art is still a thing, but the FF Pixel Remasters came out not too long ago and they redid their sprites so they don't look out of place on modern TV's. Suikoden does have a lot more characters though, so maybe it wasn't in the budget. I'll have to see it in action when it comes out and if I still can't deal with it, I'll wait for a sale. I have a huge backlog in my library anyway.

I thought it would be bad too, but I am currently playing star ocean second story r and it has pretty much the same problem, and honestly, I barely ever notice the sprites being lower quality.,

Of course I would absolutely love HD Sprites, no questions about it, but It doesnt seem to be as intrusive as I expected it to be before playing Star Ocean SS R .

I prefer Pixel Sprites all day over anything that is what people are asking for and we get today. ♥♥♥♥ looks bad in modern JRPGs.
