Help, suggest me a good party for S1

I want to try many members in battle like Maas, Masse, Sasuke, Eileen but i have a feeling they are not intended for fighting although we can add them to our party.

Rather than im trying each character which is time consuming,
Is there a recommendation for some character in the game (mild SPOILER is fine) that is absolutely meta/destined to break the fight?

you can go with chars which carry over to S2, maybe thats a good choice for you if you plan to continue on the second game.

As you said, some of them are just bad- don´t get me wrong, you can complete the game with it, but it will be a little bit harder and more time consuming.

In the end you are mostly locked with 2 front row fighters (no spoilers), depending on MC´s position, choose any 3 chars you like (1 front, 2 backrank would be a suggestion)

Meta is not really fun or much faster, Valeria has a powerful single target rune, Vic&Flick are viable picks, and any of the stronger mages will do the job in the back line. Some are maybe easier and faster to play, but don´t limit yourself and pick your fav choices you prefer

The following characters are playable in Suikoden 2. If you MAX out their weapon in Suikoden 1 (reach level 16), they'll get a +3 starting bonus to their weapon level in the sequel.

i guess 10 ppl will you give 10 different group setups- my pick was

Vic, Flick, Valeria for front row
MC, Cleo and Tengaar for back rank

(mostly because i am a lazy bastard and choose auto fight during random encounters, so no "pure mages" for me, which can´t do anything (sorry Luc and Crowley).

But as said, you can add Pesmerga/Fu Su Lu/Hix/Alan/Grenseal or any other one for front row (chars with shields are maybe better for obvious reasons) , and at least 2 viable chars for back rank (i went with Tengar & Cleo because of magic & attack ability), but every stronger mage (Luc/Crowley) or Clive (strong back rank fighter) will also do the job.

Personally i don´t care for the carry-over benefits very much, only 5 chars are interesting for me, the weapon level is nice, but... not more- only the 108 stars to unlock something i don´t want to spoil is interesting for me

Cleo is great thats who I gave my fortune rune to, but sadly she just remains in the scarlet moon empire after the game

Kirkis is also viable, solid backrank, decent mage- good choice for the first half- not perfect, but pretty fine
