Castle Level 4

Did they change the requirements for getting castle level 4 in Suikoden 1? I've got 90 stars (if you include the one required dead one) but it's not upgrading. As far as I can tell, I haven't missed anyone. But It's not triggering which is making it hard for me to recruit others.

If its about recruiting Leon, yeah, i even counted the heroes on Tablet; I recruited Leon and few chars right before storming to Shazarazade

I always went after Leon before attacking Moravia. I think that might be the earliest you could feasibly get him.

Not sure how any of you are getting level 4 after Neclord and before Dragons Den because a couple of the recruited stars were "away". I had everyone, so have many others, but we weren't able to upgrade until after Dragons Den.

Either game is glitching (in your favour) or the Mandela effect is in full Suiko swing.

Speaking for myself, I did recruit Kreutz and Fuma at the Dragon Knight's Den as soon as I left the sleeping dragon's cave, and then checked to see if the castle was level 4. Maybe those two off-set the loss of Viktor, and Krin and Kasumi weren't gone yet?

Possibly. I also went back after I got Kreutz and Fuma, and still no level 4. It was only after I completed that part and got Joshua, Futch, and Milia (think that's her) I unlocked level 4.

All good though, I've caught up. Only one non-Gremio star left to get and about to smash Scherazade (or however it's spelt).

I just recruited Tengaar, my 90th character, after Neclord's castle. Went back to my castle, left on the boat and re-entered, got the cut scene showing it with the banner on it. I was able to go recruit Crowley, but one thing I am confused about is are there any additional castle upgrades, or just a flag you get to see in a cut scene? What about that cave door on the dock that's blocked by boxes? How do I get in there?

If you remember when you came to the castle to fight the zombie dragon at the start of the game, you used that entrance. It's Just blocked off for the rest of the game.

It just happened to me, I was really worried as the flag cut scene wasn't appearing,and I had already like 97 or so characters after valley seek... In my case, I loaded a previous save and chose to return from the dragon castle walking instead of flying on the dragon, and that worked for me. I made all the way back walking and then on boat, and it really worked! :)
