Hard Mode - too easy?
Do we have a more detailed breakdown of Hard Mode, yet?

Suikoden was never really too challenging apart from the odd boss fight. I am only a few hours into Suikoden 1 and so far it's been incredibly easy. Am I missing something here? I still love the games but was really looking forward to a challenge.

Does it get harder?

there's really not much you can do to make it more difficult based on the games systems without imposing additional restrictions on the player, just adding more damage and health to the bosses doesn't make it more difficult. None of the bosses are difficult, and the only one that's potentially dangerous is Sonya, and only because she has a higher jump in damage compared to previous bosses. The flowing rune basically just trivializes boss fights once you receive it. I ran Crowley with his cyclone rune, and Cleo with the Flowing rune for Sonya, could've added Mother Earth too at basically no real loss to dps, virtually impossible to die.

The only dangerous thing about Sonya was that when I used fast mode for the fight my game got hardlocked and I had to redo the fight 3 times. Last time without enabling fast mode :lilimjoy::lilimsob:

Some people own the game on other consoles and use Steam thread to discuss things. Nothing new.
Some are console users or may be posting on alt steam accounts. You never know. Hard mode needs more oomph.

Meanwhile this is my first Suikoden game. I walked 3 steps out of the first town on the world map and got instantly wiped by mobs that 1 shot every single one of my characters... on normal... Am I the one missing something here? lmao

Meanwhile this is my first Suikoden game. I walked 3 steps out of the first town on the world map and got instantly wiped by mobs that 1 shot every single one of my characters... on normal... Am I the one missing something here? lmao
It's a bit of an oldschool thing, especially in Suikoden 1 you are not supposed to go outside the city but follow the story. Aside from the very beginning, the game will be a breeze, don't worry! aha
Yea in S1, the mobs at the Mage Island is supposed to be your lowest level mobs and should ease your starting gang up in levels. The mobs outside the city are a step higher and can wipe you easily if you are unlucky like the boar or the ant guys. Fight outside city for the blue bon bon thingies, then you get levels very quickly and can take on anything out there lot easier.
The boars hit hard regardless. They're slow so you're meant to kill them first, but they also have good HP. It's always kind of been an odd enemy.

They also give 0 ♥♥♥♥♥ about the Blue Ribbon in S2 lol
Even on hard mode i didn‘t have any spikes in S1. Not the solo travel to Sarady, not the zombie dragon (maybe i had luck with the rng), i really expected it much harder than it was, and after 10 hours, i was done with all stars and most of the collected items.

Haven‘t played S2 so far, but beating Rowd was quite a challenge (can‘t really remember if it was similar tough on psx). Also the dungeon for Vics Rune Sword was more challenging than any dungeon in S1 so far. But i‘ll see what the future brings…

Nah, the games are piss easy. Hard mode just increases the health, literally no other changes, by 20% so it's to be expected that the games aren't hard.
