I prefer not to and just play the game, if I miss stuff I miss stuff and if the game isn´t worth playing if you miss stuff I will skip it.
I want to play a game not feel like I need to follow a manual like I´m assembling ikea furniture.
I used to but then it started to feel like I wasn´t actally PLAYING the games I was just copying someone else playing them.
only thing you will have difficulties is to get all 108 character ( some are harder to get) maybe in second run check just for recruit on a guide if you are a completist
sound good, I will pick it up then.
Not following recruitment guide could make you miss a lot of content.
had so much fun when this game came out trying to find the stars with a friend who introduced me to the game. in the end we needed 2 characters (window and crowley) one we knew where he was but couldn't get him. the other was hidden in the same place as the item we needed for the other haha (both hidden in a simular way)
other then that you realy don't need a guide for anything (or you need to find something in the castle wich can be a bit hard at first)
and as a bonus tip for everybody (veterans will probably know this already) there's a book you can read in the game wich tells you about Unite Magic. you can do these when 2 characters cast their level 4 rune spell (given the runes can be matched fire -> earth -> wind -> water -> lightning -> fire) this also works with the better versions (rage -> fire, mother earth -> earth, flowing -> water, Thunder -> lightning)
It's the story and writing, which makes the Suikoden games great (except IV). enjoy :D
I´m doing a playthrough without guide. more than likely I will not return to use a guide as I have a huge backlog of games I want to play and retreading hours of the same content just to find a few extra characters is probably not something I´m interested in.
Maybe way in the future when I´ve forgotten half the game.
