is the hard mode satisfying?
I am not familiar with this game but i am craving a JRPG, Does the hard mode make you min-max your team or this game doesn't push you in terms of strategy?

The Suikoden games in general are not "hard". I have the same taste as you I think. I enjoy grinding and min maxing to make the best team possible. I remember in an interview they said they wouldnt change the difficulty and I dont remember the original games having a difficulty option so Im not sure. I do know I actually died to a boar in one hit immediately after leaving Gregminster solo to get my Fortune rune so I think it definitely makes it harder I believe but I dont think its going to push you too hard. The strategy battles perhaps and characters can die permanently. Beyond that, the game is incredible and amazing for its story, game mechanics and systems that were unheard of for a game released in 1995 and 1998. I mean 108 characters? A growing, changing castle, a story with more twists and turns than a M Night Shamalan movie and political intrigue than Game of Thrones? trust me, these two games are worth it.

No, suikoden simply doesnt have enough depth to make hard mode an enjoyable experience.
I'm having a blast! It could be harder, tho. But now you kinda have to prepare yourself beforehand. This is their first attempt at doing a Hard Mode so it means that future entries will probably feature them, but as a start? This is a lot to have fun with. Give it a go!

My guess is that earth runes will be a must now, since you can facetank everything in the original game.
