Suikoden II - Bug List & Remaster Check
As most players of the original game know, Suikoden II has a long history of bugs—some minor, some game-breaking. The goal of this topic is to identify which of these issues have been fixed in the remaster and bring attention to any that still persist, so they can potentially be addressed in a future patch.

This list was compiled using information from Pyriel’s bugfix list for the original game, as well as additional reports from the Suikosource forums. If you’ve noticed any other bugs or inconsistencies, feel free to share them!

Flint Stone Bug (NOT FIXED): When the hero and Jowy escape the Mercenary Fort, Jowy creates a diversion by setting an oily rug on fire using the Flint Stone, both of which are stored in the hero’s Key Items list. While the oily rug is correctly removed, the script fails to remove the Flint Stone, as it erroneously attempts to delete it from the regular items list instead. This results in the Flint Stone remaining in the hero’s inventory despite being used.

Armor Effects/Bonuses Bug: Some armor pieces apply incorrect bonuses. The Master Robe incorrectly inherits the Earth Armor’s resistance to negative statuses, and the Robe of Mist does not have its intended magic-repelling effect.

Badeaux Missing Bug: Badeaux does not appear in the castle after recruitment due to a scripting issue.

Castle Armory Exploit: The Castle Armory menu has a bug that allows players to exploit it for unlimited money (potch).

Castle Farm Bug: Turning in multiple seeds or animals at once only registers one instead of the correct number.

Chaco Level Bug: Chaco can join the party at level 1 due to a missing script command that fails to set his level properly.

Circlet Name Error: The item "Circuret" is incorrectly named and should be "Circlet."

Collectibles Retrieval Bug: Handed-in collectible items (Books, Plans, Recipes, Sound Sets, Window Sets) are not properly recognized in after-battle searches, leading to duplicate acquisitions or making some items, such as Recipe #34, permanently unobtainable.

Forgiver Sign Display Bug: The Forgiver Sign spell can display absurdly high damage or healing values if the party requires more healing than its HP pool can provide. This is a cosmetic issue and does not affect actual gameplay.

Gregminster Crash Bug (Germany Only): In the German version, meeting Lepant and reviewing recruits can cause the game to crash due to excessive line breaks in the dialogue options.

GS1 Load - Name Import Bug (FIXED): The name of the hero from Suikoden 1 and the castle name do not import correctly when loading a save from the first game.

GS1 Load - Rune Import Bug: The game fails to properly import runes from Suikoden 1. The original code requires three empty rune slots, but due to garbled checks, the transfer rarely works as intended.

GS1 Load - Tai Ho Bug: Vincent, an unplayable character in Suikoden 1, is mistakenly swapped in instead of Tai Ho, who should be available with a level bonus. Tai Ho’s rune import is also broken, as he starts with a Killer Rune and never gains a second slot.

Inn Free Healing Exploit: Inns incorrectly heal the party for free.

Join at Level 99 Bug: Some characters whose levels are set based on another character’s level can incorrectly join at level 99.

Kindness Rune ATK Overflow Bug: If a character's Kindness value becomes negative, they receive a massive 999 ATK boost instead of the intended penalty or reset.

Knife-Thrower HP Bug (FIXED): During the knife-throwing event in Ryube, Eilie can hit the hero, reducing HP by half. If the hero had only 1 HP before the event, this could drop their HP to 0 outside of battle.

Lamb Collection Bug: One of Yuzu's lost lambs shares a status flag with a Unicorn Woods treasure chest, making it impossible to collect both.

Luca Battle Party Placement Bug: When selecting parties before the fight against Luca, a bug allows the hero to be placed in the back row alone, making him invulnerable to Luca's attacks.

Matilda Gate Clipping Bug (FIXED): The Matilda Gate can be pushed out of the way early in the game, allowing unintended access to an area before it should be available.

Music Playback Bug (NA Only): Certain songs and sound effects do not play due to improperly encoded audio data. This issue only affects the North American release.

Rune Speed Boost Bug (NA Only): Using Rune Unite attacks can trigger an unintended speed boost due to the game incorrectly pulling data when checking for speed-altering spells.

Rune Unite Bug: The game improperly searches for additional Unite partners even after a valid partner is found, which can lead to multiple Unite attacks occurring when only one should, or cause characters to do nothing when they should be participating in a Unite attack.

Scroll Shop Display Bug: The scroll shop displays names for unidentified (un-appraised) items, revealing them before they are properly identified.

Tenzan Pass Enemy Naming Bug: Some enemies encountered in Tenzan Pass late in the game have untranslated or incorrect names. Additionally, Chimaera enemies are missing from the encounter list.

Tinto Glitch (NA Only): A scripting error in the North American version can trap the player inside Gustav’s Manor, making it impossible to progress after Jess orders his troops to attack Neclord.

Trade Gossip Translation Bug (NA Only): Trade Gossip text (UWASA) was left untranslated in the North American version.

Two River Crash Bug (Germany Only): During the battle at Two River, the German version can crash due to excessive line breaks in dialogue options.

Cooking Minigame Preparation Penalty Bug: The cooking minigame includes a preparation bar that was designed to apply a score penalty if not filled to at least 70%. The intended penalties were:

0-49% completion = 0.5x score penalty
50-69% completion = 0.7x score penalty

However, the bar fills automatically over time—even without player input—always exceeding 70%. As a result, the penalty system is never triggered, making this mechanic functionally obsolete.

Cooking Minigame Preferences Bug: The food preference data for judges in the cooking minigame is misaligned due to an error in the data table. Kasumi incorrectly inherits Apple's preferences, and this misalignment continues down the list, affecting all subsequent characters' preferences.

I'll have to check and edit this later, but I'm like 90% the flint isn't in my key items.
I can confirm 100% the inn healing glitch is fixed. If you hit stay and don't save and back out, you get no healing. I tested that one right at the start as well.

EDIT/UPDATE: confirmed flint still there. also, money glitch from armor shop is also fixed, so no capping your money for large swaths of enhancement/gearing up your army in one shot. need a lot of money, you gotta farm it :)

I checked the Flint Stone bug on the PS4 and it was not fixed. Can you check this on the Steam version as well please?

Part of me's hoping they didn't fix the Luca fight party glitch, but mostly because sometimes, i just want to be a real @**hole to him.

Ah damn, they fixed the Matilda bug? That was such a nice way to boost your character in the OG. I was hoping they'd leave it in.
You can still recharge items in S1 by tossing them in storage.

That was a feature, not a glitch. Bring it back
Games are more fun when you can break them
Kindness rune is fixed :(

this is false, i had no flintstone in my inventory left ö.ö
or i have some kind of special version where the script didnt failed lol.
It's not really a bug, but in suikoden 1 you used to be able to see the armour defence value when transferring armour to another character or retrieving it from the vault to see if it was higher than the current armour value that the character had , but that has now been removed sadly.... It makes it inconvenient when transferring armour to other characters as you have to manually check the defence levels of the new armour...
