While I agree 3/4 should get full remakes to bring it back do to series tone. #3 wasnt as bad as your saying lol.
4 on the other hand had a lot of issues, story, boring graphics, too many plain heroes (except a few, as one of my favorites in is 4 Mitsuba), and the grind. But the "zero link to any other suiko timewise" is so wrong. It took place 150 years before Suikoden 1. You could also find Ted in Suikoden 4 and free him which is canon. Also if you would read the books in Suikoden 1,2,3,5. it talks about the island nation and the war that happened.
Gacha will be in Star Leap, but its confirmed to only be in events, Extra Heroes outside the story (ie: Pahn, Georg, ect ect. To allow you to build dream parties) and cosmetics. The story will be about the same length as Suikoden 2, and all 108 heroes are recruitable, along with HQ building. It also takes place few years before Suikoden 1 and you will get to see a lot of Odessa backstory also
All three were a departure from the top down 2D based games I wanted so I'm not going to sit here and say I want to see these remastered or whatever. Remade possibly but I highly doubt they'll ever do that. Tactics was fairly average and the Game Boy game Tiekreis was just not a Suiko game in my opinion.
how much interest is there around the game. ie potential buyers.
what's the cost of remaking/remastering it.
Look at ff7 problary the most popular ff game. Yet the most remastered/remade game is ff4 due it problary needing a lower budget to remake. while still being popular
So 4 is not the most beloved, and if they remade it they would problary have to take some liberties with the systems.
3 and 5 would need graphicals updates, But I think the overall combat system in both of them are mostly fine.
they could offcourse go the interesting route and try to remake 3,4,5 in the pixel style of 1-2, as that way they could reuse some assets and system and cut costs.
but they are making moves for building interest around the IP with the anime, if that turns out to be just for the gacha or if they will announce a new game with the anime we will just have to wait and see.
Sure, I think there is contents there that can turn out to be good, but I'd say Phoenix Wright also had plenty of materials to be a good anime, but the end result was not that.
That is because story telling method between game and story is different.
In order to make proper story for anime, they will have to make necessary changes. That requires not only the talent to do so, but care. Someone needs to be really into Suikoden's story itself to make that transition.
Would most anime director show that kind of care? I doubt it. Most directors won't be passionate enough on a project that is not their own creation.
I expect 2 outcomes:
- Outcome #1: anime director with passion, but passion often also means being prideful. They would want to make their own imprints to the story, and change the source material too much in order to turn it into his own creation.
- Outcome #2: anime director that plays it safe. Just make sure the list of event plays out similar to the game as much as possible, without any care how it is being being presented on the screen. Phoenix Wright was this.
The best outcome will be if a talented passionate director that is also passionate fan of the source material takes over. So much of a fan to the source material, the authenticity of the source material being more important than their pride, while not being satisfied unless that feeling and emotion he felt in the game is perfectly translated into anime.
Yeah such director taking over is unlikely. Which means we can only expect either outcome#1 or outcome#2.
I think perfect example of this is Fullmetal Alchemist. That anime had 2 versions. Initial FMA vs Brotherhood. You can see the care that was put into the initial release, but initial FMA went off to do it's own thing, and diverged enough to get that awful multi-verse ending. Brotherhood follows the original manga story, but you do not see the care that was put into initial anime version, and in comparison it felt flat.
Between the 2, I'd prefer outcome #1, because outcome #2 always results in dull anime. However, outcome #1 has too high potential of pissing fans off. Either way, I doubt they will be able to create an anime that will satisfy most fans. If anime actually turns out well, I'll be pleasantly shocked.
