are all 5 stories connected?
Suikoden 2 is probably the best RPG that was on the Playstation 1.
The thing about the Suikoden games, especially 2, is that the human element is the one that matters most. In Suikoden 2 especially no one is being possessed or compelled to do all of the great or terrible things they do by some supernatural force, it all comes from within from the regular motivations of glory, honor, empathy, love, power, bloodlust, etc.
I don't remember suikoden 1 much, but suikoden2 was the first game to actually make me tear up a bit. The story is great. Maybe it was my first exposure to the type of story trope it is. Maybe I was just an emotional young teen, maybe even 12 years old. But it just got me at certain parts.
I Still Have Both, and Have Replayed Suikoden 3 At Least 3 Times
I Had Suikoden 4 and the Sailing and Rune Cannons Were Interesting,
But Overall That One Was a Waste Of Time- Didn't Keep That One
Oddly 4's 'Sequel' Suikoden Tactics Was Quite Good, and I Replayed It a 2nd Time,
Still Fondly Remember Some Characters, and Am Semi-Regretting Not Keeping It
Suikoden 5 Was Pretty Good, Some Nice Characters, Good Large Battles, and Strangley
a Very Fun Fishing Mini-Game, and I Usually Dislike Fishing Games- Still Didn't Keep It
Suikoden 3 Though, Again, Is Just FABULOUS, So I'm Getting 1 and 2
To 'Complete the Original Trilogy' You Could Say- Plus I've Had Good Experiences
Revisiting Or Getting 90's JRPGs I Missed- I'm 52, So a Few Classics Fell Through the Cracks, Like Chrono Trigger, Which I Didn't Get Until 2019, Even Though I Played Chrono Cross
This is why suikoden is special, it's all about gameplay not graphics
If you are a fan of JRPS. It is one of the must plays of the PS 1 Era. Along the likes of Xenogears, Crono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, and Star Ocean 2, The FF games, and Tales.
- Minigames
- Castle expansion as the army grows
- A story
- 6 person turn-based combat
- Map based battlefields for army combat (Suikoden 2 only)
- Turn based battlefields for army combat (Suikoden 1 only)
- Duels (Rock, Paper, Scissors style)
- Hot spring
- 107 characters to recruit
- Open world
- Runes
- Weapon level ups via the blacksmith
exactly, i would add the worldbuilding was super bland. For example the lenses never felt anywhere close to the runes in suikoden games. Shallow and meaningless. Main Antagonist was a joke as well, it was like a fanservice of Luca Blight w/o any depth. I couldnt even finish the game halfway. Until the imperial dude rejoins the group it was kinda bearable. But after the guy rejoined w/o any real drama, the magic was completely lost for me.
Then i played chained echoes befor eiyuden, which had an amazing worldbuilding and was made by 1 Person, and even looked like suiko 2 graphics. Its so sad what they did with eiyuden, completely wasted potential. And i dont even want another game from them.
I'm not reading that if you can't write it properly. This is an offence to my eyes.
