How they allow us to level has effected how much I enjoy the games. I was that way in the past but after I got older I started noticing it and wording the problem.
Off topic - Now I know about level scaling I have become more critical, this game did not have level scaling it had XP limiting(almost as bad).
Call me crazy, but I liked Vandal Hearts 2. The worst thing about it was the combat system, but otherwise it felt like a good successor.
Would've been nice if it had been a proper sequel, though.
The worst part about not being able to grind is that if one of your characters dies you get less money or whatever which mweans you can'[t buy as much....so you're gimped for later battles which makes it even harder to not die and it just spirals into a really ♥♥♥♥ cycle.
Suffice it to say I do NOT like the game.
This felt like more of an issue early game, when you needed to stock up on healing items to keep your guys going. Once Huxley and Sarah got some advancements under their belts, I never really used healing items, and always had a surplus of cash.
I do absolutely agree that not being able to revisit maps to grind levels was awful. The game was fairly well balanced considering that, but left no room to reward players for putting in the effort.
Well, unless you got Vandalier. THAT was worth the effort.
I remember this. Thanks for the nostalgia blast!
I havent played Vandal Hearts in more than 10 years but I still remember the sad tune of the town where you find Grog (before you set him on the right path, because then the town´s melody changed to a "default" one) is still engraved in my mind.
To be fair, a lot of older games don't necessarily age well. A remaster/remake can make changes to improve the original experience. In Vandal Hearts' case, being able to farm levels/gear would be a massive improvement in the experience.
It'd be nice to see a lot of the old great IPs get a revitalization, and remasters/remakes seem to be the gateway to that these days.
Vandal Hearts and Wild Arms XF are my favorite isometric tbs games.
I think you'd be surprised, it's still fun to play. Just not as deep as its contemporaries. I'd just want some small changes like a widescreen presentation.
Maybe. I didnt enjoy it last time I played because I found it rather easy and outdated and that was a long time ago. And those reasons could be said about Suikoden, for example but...the heart wants what the heart wants. I think Vandal Hearts was one the first rpgs I played and when I played others, the spell of the game broke, however the good memories about it still endure. Maybe FFtactics is the one to blame, because I have kept coming back to that game over the years.
VH2 was frustrating on another level. It wasn't the fights the and simultaneous turns that did it. Or the Gear grinding. It was getting the best ending without losing your mind. I think I remember someone making a youtube video of the best ending and someone typed in the comments that they can finally rest in peace lol.
