They did not changed game mechanics, sadly in Suiko 1 you still need to do a lot of "menuing", which can be a good or bad thing depending of how you look at it, personally I'm up for any quality of life changes, some players like their remasters intact.
A run button and 8-way directional movement have been added.
There's a fast-forward button in battle
The menus (which are notoriously bad in Suikoden 1) have been overhauled. They're not perfect, but they're way better.
Obviously load times are better.
remaster=only updated graphics.
remake=often new stuff which wasnt in the game before.
but yes, it looks artwork wise way better then before

sadly he didnt shown the unite combo from original to remaster which i commented aswell but ohwell.
anyways, you can see the differences in this video.
the translation in the remaster is way better aswell then in the original, they fixxed mostly all translation mistakes.
